Chapter One
I remember the day I was called to the White House kitchen like it was yesterday.
I was in the middle of preparing a quinoa salad when a Secret Service agent interrupted me, insisting that I follow him at once.
Confused and a little flustered, I wiped my hands on my apron and tried to make sense of the situation.
As I stood in the hallway, surrounded by armed guards and bomb-sniffing dogs, I couldn't help but wonder what I had done to deserve such attention.
I couldn't help but feel a mix of annoyance and curiosity as I followed the agent through the White House hallways.
I couldn't understand why he was bringing me to the kitchen, especially since I had been assured that my future at the White House was secure.
But as we approached the Oval Office, the confusion only deepened.
Why would the president want to see me about a kitchen assignment?
