Chapter 1
"Xiaoyao, I heard that there is a fairy island in the East China Sea, and the fairies on the island have a kind of medicine that can cure all diseases. If you can get this medicine back, your grandmother will be saved."
Wang Xiaohu said to me with a smile.
I was stunned for a moment, then I asked, "Is this true?"
Wang Xiaohu nodded and said, "Of course it's true. My cousin's wife is from that island. She told me about it."
I looked at Wang Xiaohu in disbelief.
He had a warm smile on his face as if he was telling me a bedtime story.
But I knew he wasn't lying to me.
I had known him since we were kids, and he had never lied to me before.
I stood up and said, "Thank you for telling me this. I'm going to find that fairy island right now."
"No matter how dangerous it is, I have to try. If the fairies on that island really have a medicine that can cure all diseases, then my grandmother will be saved. Wang Xiaohu, thank you so much for telling me this."
I replied with excitement.
Wang Xiaohu looked at my excited face and shook his head helplessly.
He was about to say something, but I interrupted him, "Don't worry about me. I'm going to find the medicine even if I die trying. My grandmother has been taking care of me for so many years. It's time for me to do something for her."
After hearing what I said, Wang Xiaohu kept quiet.
He knew how much my grandmother meant to me.
The more he spoke about it, the more hope surged up in my heart.
He knew exactly what was worrying me right now.
"Xiaoyao!"
I snapped back to attention when I heard Wang Xiaohu calling out my name.

I listened carefully to what he had to say next.
His words sparked hope within me.
Wang Xiaohu is one of my good friends from the village.
He looked stocky with a warm smile on his face all day long.
Despite his appearance, he was actually quite wise and intelligent.
Most importantly, he was very honest too!
If he says that there's such an amazing place in this world, then it must be true!
I couldn't help but feel grateful to him for bringing me such news at such a crucial time in my life!
"My cousin's wife is from that island. She told me about it," Wang Xiaohu continued earnestly as I stared at him in shock.
I had no idea how long we had been friends until then because we never really talked much before.
At first glance, he seemed like quite an ordinary person living his life just like everyone else did in our village.
I had never heard him mention his cousin's wife before either.
However, he said that his cousin's wife was from a fairy island in the East China Sea, and this island had a kind of medicine that could cure all diseases!
I had no idea how many people were living on that island, but if they really had such an amazing medicine, I was sure they wouldn't mind giving one pill to me so I could save it for my grandmother later.
My grandmother would be able to live a long life after taking that medicine!
I couldn't help myself from looking at Wang Xiaohu with wide eyes, "Are you serious? Is there really a fairy island in the world?"
I just couldn't believe what he had said earlier even though I wanted it to be true so badly!
Wang Xiaohu nodded earnestly and said, "Of course. I remember my cousin's wife telling me about it. She even showed us some of the medicine. But she said we weren't allowed to take any of it."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing at first, but when I saw how serious he was, I couldn't help but feel excited again!
"After listening to you speak about it, I believe there must be one such place in the world! It's just…"
Wang Xiaohu looked at me doubtfully as soon as he heard what I had said before trailing off his words.

"I don't really believe in fairies," I said with doubt in my voice.
Wang Xiaohu opened up his eyes wide when he heard what I said before laughing out loud at me
He continued to say with confidence,"I know it may sound unbelievable because fairies are usually only found in stories, but I'm telling you the truth right now! There is such an island!"
Wang Xiaohu could tell that I was still skeptical about the whole thing, so he added, "Xiaoyao, I know you have been looking for medicine to save your grandmother all this while. If you can find that fairy island and get the medicine from them, then your grandmother will be saved!"
As soon as he said those words, my heart leaped with joy once again!
My grandmother had been bedridden and in pain for more than ten years now
I had no idea how many doctors we had visited during these years because of her illness
It couldn't be cured no matter what kind of medicine she took
If there really was a kind of medicine that could cure all diseases like Wang Xiaohu said, then my grandmother would definitely be able to recover after taking it!
She would be able to go back to her old life again! My eyes were already brimming with tears just thinking about how happy my grandmother would be once she recovered
I wiped away the tears from the corners of my eyes before turning to look at Wang Xiaohu with a grateful expression on my face

"Thank you so much for telling me about this, Wang Xiaohu. I will definitely find a way to get to the fairy island and bring back the medicine," I said gratefully.
Wang Xiaohu nodded and said with a smile, "That's great! But let me tell you first. My cousin's wife told me that the fairy island is located in the East China Sea. It is not too far away from our village's coast."
He then went on to say, "It's just that no one has been able to reach it so far because of the weird things that happen in the sea. The fishermen who have ever tried to pass by it felt as though they were being watched even if they didn't see anything at all. They all turned around before they got too close to it."I knew what Wang Xiaohu was trying to say.
Even though the fairy island was not too far away from our village's coast, we wouldn't be able to find it without a compass or any navigation tools
We would definitely end up lost on the vast ocean if we tried to search for it without any help from anyone else.
Of course, I had no idea why no one from my village had ever heard of this fairy island before.
If someone did manage to visit the island after hearing about its miraculous medicine, then there was no way they would keep something like that a secret from everyone else!
Wang Xiaohu looked at me seriously and said in a hurry,"But it's already dark outside!"

"Xiaoyao, let's not be so hasty. Let's just forget about going to the fairy island for now and think of another way to help your grandmother. It's not safe at all to go out to sea at night," Wang Xiaohu said as he tried to stop me from making such an impulsive decision
I didn't blame him at all because I knew he was saying this because he cared about me.
Although we weren't relatives, Wang Xiaohu had always treated me like a brother ever since we were young
He was always there to help me whenever I needed him
I could tell that he was really worried about my safety if we went out to sea in the middle of the night.
"Xiaoyao! Do you really want to die? I heard that an evil dragon guards the fairy island. It will kill anyone who tries to get close to its home," Wang Xiaohu said as he tried his best to convince me.
"I understand what you're saying, Wang Xiaohu. But I can't turn back without even trying," I said with a resolute expression on my face.
I had already made up my mind to go out to sea tonight to look for the fairy island.
There was no way I could back down now after hearing about it!

Wang Xiaohu could see that I had already made up my mind about this.
He knew that nothing he said would be able to change my decision
But he still insisted on trying to convince me to give up on my dangerous plan
"Xiaoyao! Just think about it. We went fishing that one time and were almost killed by a sea monster. What if something like that happens again when we go out to sea tonight?"
He really didn't want anything bad to happen to me because of this.
However, I couldn't let him stop me from going out to look for the fairy island just because he was worried about my safety!
I took a deep breath before saying with a determined expression on my face,"I know what I'm doing, Wang Xiaohu. There are a lot of dangers out at sea. But if we're lucky enough to find the fairy island and bring back the medicine tonight, then my grandmother will be saved!"
Wang Xiaohu sighed as he looked at me with a helpless expression on his face.
He could tell that there was no way I would listen to him no matter what he said
"Alright, Xiaoyao. If you're really set on going out at sea tonight, then I won't stop you from doing it. However, we should wait until tomorrow morning to go out there instead. Maybe you'll change your mind about this when you see how dangerous it is out at sea," Wang Xiaohu said as he reluctantly agreed to help me with my plan
He didn't want me to get hurt because of this, so he decided that it would be best if we waited until morning to go out and look for the fairy island
I paused for a moment after hearing what Wang Xiaohu had said.
He did have a point about waiting until dawn before going out to sea.
Perhaps I would be able to come up with a better plan if I thought about it more carefully in the meantime.
After all, time was running out and I wouldn't be able to do anything once my grandmother passed away!
If we went out searching for the fairy island right now without any direction, then we might end up getting lost and wasting our time in vain
But I shook my head after thinking about it more carefully.
I didn't even know where to start looking for the fairy island!
I had already wasted a lot of time trying to find medicine that could cure my grandmother's illness
