I’m not a hero.
I’m just a woman who’s had enough.
I’ve had enough of the men who think they can take what they want, when they want it.
I’ve had enough of the men who think they’re above the law.
And I’ve had enough of the men who think they can get away with anything because they have money and power on their side.
So I decided to do something about it.
I became the Angel of Justice, a vigilante who takes down those men one by one.
I pinned him against the brick wall in the alley, my hand tight around his neck.
I had tracked him through the corrupt police officers he paid off to look the other way, and through the human trafficking organization he had been using to abduct women and transport them to his private club.
"Who are you?" he grunted, trying to claw at my hand.
I grabbed his other wrist and pinned it above his head.
"A concerned citizen."
I looked him over from head to toe.
His expensive suit was rumpled and torn, and his face was bruised, as if he had been in a fight.
He smelled of alcohol and drugs.
He was a disgusting human being, but at least he was paying for it now.
"What do you want?"
he demanded, his breath hot on my face.
My eyes slid down to his pants.

"You think you can just take whatever you want?"
I sneered at him.
"I’m not a prostitute."
"Hah!"
he laughed loudly, and I tightened my grip on his wrists.
"You’re not? Then what are you doing in this alley dressed like that?"
"Trying to make sure justice is served."
He looked me over once more, his eyes lingering on my breasts.
"I know you," he said suddenly.

I pulled him closer, our faces inches apart.
"Yes," I said slowly, "you do."
"You’re that bitch who gave me a black eye at the club."
He tried to push me away, but I didn’t let him go.
"That was you?"
he asked, grinning widely now.
"You were drunk and you were assaulting a woman. I was just defending her."
"Screw you," he growled, trying to push me away again.
"I’ll sue your ass for this!"
"You do that," I said with a smirk, tightening my grip on his wrist until he gasped in pain.
"The police will be here soon."
"What police? You think they’ll help you?"
"No," I said, stepping back from him and straightening my clothes.

"They won’t."
I pulled my mask off and let my long blond hair fall down around my shoulders.
He stared at me, his eyes wide.
"And neither will I."
"What?"
I didn’t give him a chance to respond.
I lunged forward and punched him in the stomach.
He doubled over and fell to the ground.
I pulled my mask back on and stepped back into the shadows of the alley.
"Justice is coming for you," I called out as I turned and started to walk away.
He groaned and tried to stand up again.
"Who the hell are you?"
I could see his eyes narrowing in suspicion as he watched me.
But before I could respond, a man stepped out of the shadows of the alley and grabbed Mr. Johnson by the throat.
"What the hell?" he gasped as he struggled against his attacker.
The man pulled a knife from his pocket and raised it above his head.

Mr. Johnson’s eyes widened in panic as he looked at the knife.
But then I stepped forward and punched the man in the face.
"Hey!" he growled.
"Let him go!"
Mr. Johnson’s eyes widened in shock as he looked up into my eyes.
"Y-You’re…"
I smiled down at him.
"Yes," I said, "I’m here to save you."
I could see the confusion on his face as he tried to process my words.
But then his expression changed to one of gratitude, and he looked up at me with relief in his eyes.
The man let go of Mr. Johnson and ran off into the darkness of the alley.
Mr. Johnson watched him go and let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank you," he said softly.
"I thought he was going to kill me."
I smiled down at him, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Don’t worry," I said.
"I only used non-lethal force."
I reached down and helped him to his feet.

"Thank you," he said again, his eyes wide with shock.
His gaze moved down to my chest and then back up to my face.
"What are you doing here? Why did you save me?"
I felt a shiver run down my spine as I looked into his eyes.
This was the same man who had been drunk and assaulting a woman just one night ago, the same man who had grabbed a shotgun and threatened to shoot me.
He had caused so much pain and suffering, and yet here I was, protecting him from a mugger and smiling down at him with kindness in my eyes.
I couldn’t help but feel like a hypocrite.
But then I remembered what Dani had said about the Angel of Justice, and I knew that I was doing the right thing.
I was saving a life, and that was all that mattered.
"Why would I save you?" I asked, returning his gaze with a smile.
"I just did what anyone would do in that situation."
His eyes widened in surprise as he stared up at me.

He looked like he was about to say something, but then he just shook his head and let out a sigh.
"Thank you," he said softly.
"You’re a good person. I don’t know why you would try to help me after what I did to you last night, but… thank you."
"It’s not about what you did to me last night," I said softly.
"Everyone deserves a second chance, and I’m just trying to do the right thing. Good luck, Mr. Johnson."
I turned and started to walk away, but then I heard him call out my name.
"Wait," he said, running after me.
His face was still pale with shock as he stared at me with wide eyes.
"I’m sorry," he said softly.
"I really am. I don’t know what got into me last night. I was drunk and angry and… I don’t know. I was just being an asshole. Thank you for saving my life. I’ll never forget this."
"Goodbye, Mr. Johnson," I said, turning away from him and continuing down the alley.
As I walked out into the street, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was any hope for people like him.
Was it possible for someone to change?
Was there any hope for redemption?
