Les habitants murmuraient des histoires de disparitions et de phénomènes étranges associés à cette demeure. On racontait qu'une famille y avait vécu autrefois, mais qu'ils avaient tous disparu mystérieusement, laissant la maison abandonnée et hantée
The house was old, abandoned, and in the middle of the forest.
It was said to be haunted.
The story was that a family of four had lived there, but one day they all vanished without a trace.
No one knew what had happened to them.
The police searched for them for months, but they were never found.
The house was left empty and no one wanted to buy it because of its dark history.
Years passed and the house became a legend in the small town nearby.
People said that if you went there at night, you could hear strange noises and see weird things.
Emily Carter had heard all the stories about the haunted house since she was a kid and she had always been fascinated by it.
She had always wanted to go there and see for herself if it was really haunted or if it was just a bunch of lies people told to scare each other.
“I can’t believe you convinced me to come here,” Lucas said, looking at the abandoned house in front of them.
The house was dark and there were no lights on inside.
The windows were broken and the garden was overgrown with weeds that reached the first floor.
The three of them were standing a few feet away from the house, looking at it.
“Are you sure it’s a good idea?I mean, it’s really late and I’m pretty sure this place is haunted,” Sarah said, glancing nervously at the house.
“It is a good idea,” Emily said, determined.
“And it’s not that late.
It’s only ten o’clock and we’ll be back in an hour or so.”
“An hour or so?” Lucas repeated.
“That’s what you said last time and we ended up spending the whole night in the forest.” He shook his head.
“I still can’t believe you made us sleep outside.” He looked at Emily and narrowed his eyes.
“Are you sure this place is haunted? It looks like a regular house to me.”
Emily shrugged and smiled.
“People say it is.
And I want to find out for myself.”
Lucas looked at her for a moment, then sighed.
“Fine, let’s go check this place out so we can get it over with.
I don’t know why you’re so obsessed with haunted houses.”
Emily smiled again and turned to Sarah.
“What about you?Are you coming too?”
Sarah hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
“I guess so.”
She smiled and stepped forward.
“I’m not scared of ghosts or anything like that.I think it’ll be fun to explore an abandoned house in the middle of the night.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow at her.
“You’re not scared of ghosts?”
She shook her head.
“Of course not.Ghosts aren’t real.
It’s just a silly story people made up.”
Lucas looked at Emily.
“So why are we here?If ghosts aren’t real, then what are we supposed to be looking for?”
Emily rolled her eyes and laughed.
“Come on, let’s go check it out.”
She turned around and walked toward the house.
Lucas sighed and followed her, while Sarah hurried after them.
A few minutes later they were standing in front of the house.
The windows were still broken and there were pieces of glass scattered on the ground.
The front door was closed, but there was a small opening where some of the wood had rotted away, and they could see inside the house.
It was dark and they couldn’t see anything but shadows moving around in the darkness.
They all stared at the house for a moment, then Emily took a deep breath and stepped forward.
“Let’s go inside.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow at her again.
“You’re not scared?”
She shook her head.
“No, I’m excited.I want to find out what happened to that family and why this place is supposed to be haunted.”
He sighed and shook his head.
“This is such a cliche. Why do people always want to investigate haunted houses?
Emily rolled her eyes and grinned at him.
“Don’t tell me you’re scared.”
He arched an eyebrow at her and crossed his arms over his chest.
“Of course not.I’m just saying that maybe we should have brought a camera crew with us so we could record all the scary things that are going to happen to us tonight.”
She laughed and elbowed him in the ribs.
“Come on, Lucas, don’t be such a chicken.”
He pretended to be offended and gasped.
“A chicken?How dare you?”
He shook his head and sighed dramatically.
“I can’t believe you would insult me like that.I thought you were my friend.” He put his hand on his chest and looked at her with wide eyes.
She laughed and punched him lightly on the arm.
“Stop being such a drama queen.”
He grinned at her and she rolled her eyes again.
“Are you coming or not?”
She gave him one last chance to back out of it, but he just smirked and started walking toward the house.
“Fine.” She sighed and followed him inside the house, with Sarah right behind them.
Lucas had always been an adventurous person who loved exploring new places and trying new things, but for some reason he was acting a little different that night.
He was usually the first one to volunteer when they needed someone to check out a creepy old house or go on a dangerous adventure, but this time he was the last one to agree to go inside the house and he had even asked them not to go there at all because it was too dangerous.
But Emily had insisted and he had finally given in and come with them anyway, even though he was clearly not happy about it.
As they walked through the overgrown garden toward the front door, Sarah suddenly spoke up from behind them.
“Do you guys know what this place is?”
She asked, sounding excited and a little nervous at the same time.
“Yeah, it’s an old abandoned house,” Emily said with a grin.
“But it’s more than that. It’s haunted.”
Sarah rolled her eyes at her and shook her head.
“Everyone knows that. It’s the most famous haunted house in the whole country. But do you know why it’s haunted?”
Lucas shrugged and nodded at the house as they approached it.
“Because a family of four disappeared from here years ago and no one knows what happened to them.”
Sarah smiled at him and nodded enthusiastically.
“Exactly!”
She said, looking excited that he had guessed it right.
“No one knows what happened to the family, but there are rumors that they were killed by the spirits that lived here and their ghosts still haunt the house.”
Emily and Lucas both looked surprised when they heard this, and they stopped walking and stared at the house in front of them as if they were seeing it for the first time and only just now realizing how truly creepy it looked up close.
The house was old and weathered, with peeling paint and rotting wood that made it look like it might fall down at any moment, but despite its run-down appearance, it was clear that it had once been a very grand and beautiful home.
There were large windows set into the front of the house with intricate designs etched into the glass, and the front door had once been painted bright red and had a beautiful stained-glass window set into the top of it that let in lots of natural light, but the glass was now cracked and broken and the wood was covered with peeling paint and cobwebs that made it look like something from a horror movie rather than an elegant old home from a bygone era.
The house was also surrounded by a dense forest that seemed to swallow the feeble light of the stars, casting long, dark shadows over everything, making it look even more mysterious and spooky than it already did.
There was only one streetlight nearby and it was very dim, so it didn’t really provide much light at all, but Emily could make out some details of the house from where she stood, like how all the windows were shattered and broken, like eyes that had been blinded by time, and how the paint on the outside of the house was peeling off in large pieces that flapped in the wind like the wings of crows as they made their way inside through the open front door.
Emily shivered when she looked at the house and took a step back from it, feeling cold all over as she thought about what Sarah had said.
She had heard the stories about the old abandoned house before, but she had never really believed them until now, and now that she was here and looking at the house up close, she could see why people said that there was something not quite right about the place.
It just didn’t look like an ordinary old haunted house, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something very wrong with the place and that they shouldn’t be there.
She turned to Lucas and opened her mouth to say something to him, but he held up a hand to stop her and put his finger to his lips to tell her to be quiet.
Emily listened and held her breath as she looked around, but she couldn’t see or hear anything except for the rustling of leaves as the wind blew through the trees and the sound of an owl hooting far off in the distance, but then Lucas leaned closer and whispered something to her.
Emily followed Lucas’s gaze and saw something move inside the house, just for a second, before it disappeared back into the darkness.
“Who’s there?”
Lucas called out, taking a step back from the house, and Emily could tell by his tone that he was scared, too, even if he tried to hide it.
“We know you’re in there. We just want to talk to you.” Emily called out after Lucas, feeling very afraid now and not sure if she should go inside or run away.
She looked at Sarah and saw that she was very pale and looked scared as well and was clutching her camera tightly in her hand as if she were afraid that it might be snatched away from her at any moment.
She could see that Sarah wanted to run away just as much as she did, but she also knew that Sarah would never leave them behind in the dark and alone, so she stayed where she was and waited for them to make a decision.
Lucas looked at both of them and then took out his flashlight and turned it on, holding it up so that he could see better into the darkness of the room beyond the front door.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got a flashlight.” Lucas said as he held up his flashlight and shone it inside, but Emily just rolled her eyes and shook her head.
“I’m not worried about that, I’m worried about what’s in there.Do you really want to find out what’s in there?”
Lucas looked at her and opened his mouth to say something, but then he closed his mouth and shook his head.
“No, I don’t, but I don’t want to go back either.” He said as he looked down at his feet and scuffed his shoes on the ground.
“Me neither, I want to know what’s going on here.” Sarah said as she took a step forward and held up her camera.
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
Lucas asked as he looked at both of them, but they just nodded and he sighed and shook his head.
“Let’s just get this over with.” He said as he walked past Emily and pushed open the front door of the house, which creaked loudly as he did so.
The air inside was heavy with dust and smelled very musty, and Emily could feel herself sneezing already as they stepped inside one by one.
It was also very dark inside, and she couldn’t see anything without Lucas’s flashlight to light the way, but even with the flashlight on, she couldn’t see very much anyway, because there were no windows in this room and not very many lights either.
There was only one light in this room and it was very dim, and there were also a lot of shadows in this room that made it look even darker than it already was, and Emily could tell that there were a lot of places where someone might be able to hide and watch them without being seen.
She suddenly felt very scared when she thought about that and took another step forward as Lucas shone his flashlight around the room cautiously.
“What do we do now?”
Sarah asked as she filmed him looking around.
“I don’t know,” Lucas replied, “but we should probably go back outside before we go any further.”
