Naruto
Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who dreams of becoming the strongest in his village, faces challenges and grows up along the way.
He is an orphan and has a demon fox sealed inside him.
He graduates from the Ninja Academy and forms Team 7 with Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno.
The team faces challenges from their first mission together, but Naruto’s determination and mischievous nature help them overcome obstacles.
During a critical mission to the Land of Waves, they confront Zabuza Momochi and Haku.
Naruto unlocks his first major powerup with the Nine-Tails chakra against Haku’s Ice Mirrors.
Naruto Uzumaki is a young ninja who bears a great power hidden inside him, a power that has isolated him from the rest of his village.
As such, his only dream is to become the Hokage - the most powerful ninja, and leader of the village; but first he needs to graduate!
With his inability to perform even the most basic ninja techniques, it seems that all Naruto has going for him is his never-give-up attitude.
The graduation exam was coming up soon, and I was in a tight spot.
I was the worst student in the history of the Ninja Academy.
And on top of that, I was the container for the Nine-Tails, which made it even harder for me to graduate.
I had been failing to use even the most basic ninjutsu.
The Clone Technique created clones of myself, but my clones always poofed away in a cloud of smoke.
Growing frustrated with my struggles, I ate some of the food I had stored in my bag, and I continued to practice the Clone Technique with little success.
My classmates were struggling with the technique as well.
It was a difficult technique for beginners, but most of them managed to make one or two clones.
I hadn’t been able to make a single clone yet.
I knew that I was going to have to get it in order to graduate.
“Naruto, are you even trying?”
one of my classmates asked.
I wanted to tell him that I was trying harder than anyone.
But that just made me think of another thing that I wanted to tell him: that he was an idiot.
I couldn’t say either of those things without looking like an idiot myself.
So I just said, “Of course.”
At this rate, everyone else in my class would graduate while I would be forced to retake the class all by myself.
I knew that it wouldn’t happen because it had already been decided that I would be on a team with Sasuke and Sakura when we graduated.
But that didn’t make it any easier for me to practice.
I had already tried everything that I could think of and more, but nothing seemed to work and it made me feel like an idiot.
There were times when I felt like giving up, but I couldn’t let myself do that.
When everyone else went home, I stayed behind at the training grounds for a while longer and looked up at the Hokage Monument.
The First Hokage had dreamed of peace when founding the village hidden in the leaves.
The Second Hokage had vowed to protect the village when he succeeded his brother as Hokage.
And the Third Hokage had trained many great ninja when he was young.
I’d heard stories about them all when I was growing up and they all sounded so cool.
But more than anything else, they all dreamed of becoming the best ninja in their village, which was why they became Hokage in the first place.
When I heard them talk about how cool they were, it made me feel like I could become cool too one day if only someone would tell me that they thought I was cool!
I wanted to be as strong as the Hokage too!
That was what made me want to become the strongest ninja in the village hidden in the leaves: so that everyone would have to acknowledge me!

But in order to do that, first, I had to graduate.
I tried to make a clone of myself again, but it didn’t work.
I felt my chakra drain away as I looked down at my hands in disappointment.
Now what should I do?
I was never going to be able to graduate.
“Naruto, you’re still here?”
Instructor Mizuki asked, walking up behind me.
He was surprised to find me there so late.
I hesitated for a moment, but then I told him, “I’m going to become the strongest ninja in the world!”
He gave me a strange look before he asked, “Are you still on this?”
I don’t know how much longer he would have kept talking if I hadn’t interrupted him.
“I’m not going to give up,” I said.
Mizuki-sensei held his hands up in surrender and said, “Fine, fine.
But you’re going to have to figure out a different way to graduate because it doesn’t look like you’re going to be able to master the Clone Technique anytime soon.”
I didn’t want to give up just yet, but I couldn’t think of any other options.
I didn’t know how to do the Transformation Technique either, but it was supposed to be a lot easier than the Clone Technique.
It seemed like a good idea, so I decided to take him up on his offer.
But first, there was something else that I wanted to try.
“What if I can do it?”
Mizuki-sensei gave me a strange look before he asked, “What are you talking about?”
“I’m going to try it one more time!”
I said, looking at my hands.
My chakra reserves were low and it was starting to get late, but I wasn’t ready to give up yet.
I could do it this time!
I really could!
“Fine, do whatever you want,” Mizuki-sensei said with a shrug.
But he didn’t seem very happy about it at all.
“Just don’t push yourself too hard,” he added, looking at my hands.
“You won’t be able to graduate this year if you’re not careful.”
I nodded, feeling determined as he walked away.
He wasn’t going to tell me what to do anymore!
But as I watched him go, I heard him say something else.
“It’s not like he’ll be able to do it,” he said to another teacher who was walking with him.
“He doesn’t even have enough chakra to make one clone.”
I clenched my fists in anger.
How could Mizuki-sensei doubt me like this?
Did he really think that I was such an idiot?
I was going to make a clone this time!
And if I didn’t, then I would try again tomorrow!
As I walked away from the training ground, I heard the two of them talking some more.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with him,” the other teacher said, sounding concerned.
“Some people are just born with poor chakra control, but his is even worse than most.”
“It doesn’t matter how much ninjutsu he studies if he can’t use any of them,” Mizuki-sensei said, looking annoyed.
“It might be better for him if he fails the exam after all.”

But the other teacher shook his head.
“If he fails, then he’ll have to come back next year… but I don’t think he can afford to do that.”
Mizuki-sensei was quiet for a moment before he finally said, “You’re probably right.”
My heart started pounding in my chest.
What were they talking about?
Were they going to hold me back?
But I had been trying so hard!
It wasn’t fair!
“I don’t think it’s fair either,” the other teacher said, looking concerned.
“But I don’t see what else we can do.
If we let him graduate, then people are going to start complaining about the exam.”
“Who cares what they think?”
“But Iruka…”
Mizuki-sensei seemed really annoyed now, but the other teacher didn’t seem to care.
“Well, I’m not going to let him graduate on my watch,” he muttered before he walked away.
The other teacher paused for a moment before he ran after him, looking worried.
But Iruka-sensei was already gone.
I didn’t hear what happened next, but I heard Mizuki-sensei talking some more when I was gone.
And this time, it was very different from what he had said before.
“Don’t you understand?”
he yelled, sounding angry now. “He’s just a little boy! There’s no way that you can blame him for this!”
I was really surprised when I heard him talking like this.
Mizuki-sensei was always so quiet and polite, so I had never heard him raise his voice like this before.
But Iruka-sensei was being even louder than he was.
“I don’t care!”
he yelled back, sounding angry too now.
“If you’re not going to help him, then at least get out of my way!”
Then I heard a loud bang, as if someone had slammed their hand against something really hard.
And a moment later, Iruka-sensei was yelling some more.
“I’m not going to let this happen!”
he shouted as loudly as he could.
“I won’t let you do this! He’s just a little boy!”
I was so surprised by all of this that I didn’t know what to do.
No one had ever talked to me like this before!
And Iruka-sensei was the only person who had ever tried to help me before too!
The other kids always treated me like a monster or ignored me completely!
They were always making fun of me or calling me names, even when I hadn’t done anything wrong at all!
But Iruka-sensei was different from all the others.
He was always nice to me, no matter what I did!
And he was the only person who had ever tried to help me before!
He was the only person who had ever said that I could do it!
It made me feel so happy to hear him say that!
And it made me want to try even harder too!
I was going to do it this time!
