Your husband believe that you chested. But you didn't and when he finally realized he was wrong it was already too late you already shut your heart. He felt hopeless and terrible keep asking you for forgiveness
I was sitting at the kitchen table, sipping my coffee and scrolling through my Facebook feed when I heard Mark’s footsteps coming down the stairs.
I looked up and smiled as he walked into the room, but he didn’t even glance in my direction.
He was too busy staring at his phone.
I watched him as he poured himself a cup of coffee and then sat down across from me at the table.
He was so handsome, with his sharp features and piercing blue eyes, and I still couldn’t believe that he was all mine.
We’d been married for three years now, but I still felt like the luckiest girl in the world every time I looked at him.
“Good morning,” I said, trying to get his attention.
He grunted in response, still staring at his phone.
“Is everything okay?”
I asked, feeling a little worried.
He looked up at me then, and his eyes were cold and hard.
I stared at him for a second, my mind trying to process his question.
I knew a few guys named Michael, but none of them were close friends or anything.
There was no one I talked to on a regular basis named Michael, and I certainly wasn’t cheating on my husband with anyone by that name.
“I don’t know a Michael,” I said, frowning.
He snorted and shook his head.
“Don’t play dumb with me, Emily.
I know you’re cheating on me.
I saw the message from your friend saying that you were out with Michael all day yesterday.”
I was so confused that I actually laughed at him.
What are you talking about?
What message are you talking about?”
He held up his phone, shoving it in my face so that I could see the screen.
He’d taken a screenshot of a message from my friend Sarah and enlarged it so that I would be able to read it.
It said, “Wifey, meet me in the city.
I have a surprise for you and hubby.”
I blinked at the screen for a moment, wondering what he thought was so incriminating about that message.
He seemed to take that as a sign of guilt, though, because he got up from the table and started pacing around the room.
“Who is Michael?”
he demanded, his voice low and angry.
“This is your last chance to tell me the truth before I go look for him myself.”
“I told you, I don’t know anyone named Michael,” I said, holding my hands up in surrender.
“That’s Sarah’s boyfriend’s name.
She was probably talking about something they were planning to do together or something like that.
You’re totally overreacting right now.”
If anything, my response seemed to make him even angrier.
“You think this is funny?”
he growled, slamming his hand down on the table.
“I’m not stupid, Emily.
I know what that message means, and I know what you’re doing behind my back.”
I could feel tears stinging my eyes as I listened to him, and I had to take a deep breath before I could speak again.
“Mark, please just calm down,” I said.
“This is all just a big misunderstanding.
Let me show you the rest of the conversation, so you can see that I was just joking around with Sarah.”
He just shook his head, though, his jaw clenched tight.
“I don’t need to see anything else.
I already know that you’re cheating on me, and now you’re trying to lie your way out of it.
This is exactly why we agreed not to have secrets in our marriage.
You knew how much it would hurt me if you cheated on me, but apparently you didn’t care about that at all.”
It felt like my heart stopped beating when he said that.
I had never lied to my husband about anything, and I certainly hadn’t been unfaithful to him.
How could he think that about me?
I sniffled, trying to keep myself from breaking down completely.
“I swear to you, Mark, I’m not cheating on you,” I said, my voice shaking with emotion.
“You have to believe me.”
He just laughed, but there was no humor in it.
“I’m not as stupid as you think I am, Emily.

He stared at me for a moment, his jaw clenched tight, and then his hand shot out, grabbing my phone before I could even react.
He unlocked it with his thumb, not even bothering to ask for my password, and then started scrolling through the conversation with Sarah as if he was looking for some sort of secret message that would prove that I was cheating on him.
It was a few minutes before he finally looked up at me again, his face twisted in rage and betrayal.
“So, tell me again how you’re not cheating on me,” he snapped, tossing the phone back down on the table.
I didn’t know what to say at that point.
I felt like my entire world was crumbling around me, and I didn’t know how to stop it.
I love you more than anything in this world.
I would never do anything to hurt you like this.”
I begged, my voice barely a whisper.
He shook his head, though, his face hard as stone.
“I’m sorry, Emily, but there’s nothing you can say that will make this right.”
“But I’m not cheating on you,” I said, trying to make him see reason.
The message from Sarah only said that she would be meeting up with her “wifey” and “hubby” later that day.
It wasn’t evidence of an affair, no matter what he thought it meant.
He rolled his eyes at that, but a small part of him seemed to soften at my words.
He reached out for my hand, and for a moment I thought that maybe we could work things out after all.
Or so I thought until he opened his mouth to speak again.
“I don’t care if Sarah is your best friend,” he said, his voice hard again as he squeezed my hand tightly between his own.
“You don’t get to have secret affairs behind my back, even if they’re with other women.”
“What do you mean secret affairs?”
I asked, pulling my hand away from his grip so that I could stare at him in shock.
“I’m not having an affair with anyone.”
He laughed again, but there was no humor in it this time.
“It’s bad enough that you’re cheating on me, but now you’re going to lie about it too?
What do you take me for?
Do you really think I’m that stupid?”
I shook my head, unable to believe what he was saying to me.
“I don’t think that you’re stupid, Mark,” I said, my voice shaking with emotion again.
“I just think that you’re wrong this time.”
He just shook his head, though, his eyes cold and hard once again as he stared at me from across the table.
“I know that you’ve been cheating on me, Emily,” he said, his jaw clenched tight again.
“And now you’re going to try to lie your way out of it by pretending that the message was from Sarah?
How stupid do you think that I am?”
I couldn’t help but burst into tears then, but he didn’t even seem to care.
He just glared at me for a moment before he got up from the table and started pacing around the room again, running his fingers through his hair as he did so.
“I can’t believe that this is happening,” he muttered, sounding almost more angry than upset by the situation.
“I knew something was going on for weeks, but I never actually expected to catch you red-handed like this.”
Betrayed Hearts
“I know that you’ve been fucking around behind my back, and now I have proof.”
His words were like a sharp knife twisting in my chest, and I couldn’t stop myself from crying even harder than before.
“I can swear that I haven’t been cheating on you,” I said, my voice breaking as I did so.
“I can prove that I haven’t even been talking to any other men over the past few months if you want me to.
I know that I can be a bit of a flirt sometimes, but I would never cheat on you, Mark.
Not ever, I swear.”
He just shook his head and continued to pace around the room, but after a few seconds, he finally pulled out his cell phone and started to dial a number into it.
“I’m sorry, Emily,” he said as soon as he got through to whoever was on the other end of the line.
“I hate to be an asshole, but I have no other choice now that I know the truth. You need to come over to my office later this afternoon so that we can discuss separation agreements and everything else that comes with getting a divorce.”
My heart felt like it was breaking in two as he spoke those words, but there was nothing that I could do to stop him from leaving.
I could see the determination in his eyes and hear it in his voice, and I knew that nothing that I could say or do would ever change his mind about what he thought that he saw.
He was convinced that I had been cheating on him, and no matter what I said or did, I knew that there was nothing that I could do to change his mind… not when he was already so sure of himself.
He was going to leave me no matter what I did or said, and there was nothing that I could do to stop him from doing so.
I was just thankful that Sarah had gone out to get us some breakfast while this had all been happening so that she wouldn’t have to watch me fall apart in front of our guests.
I tried to stay strong while he gathered up his things and left, but the second that the front door closed behind him, tears started pouring down my face.
He had left me.
My husband had left me, and he had done it because he thought I had been unfaithful to him.
Because he thought that I had been sleeping with some other man behind his back for the past few months.
But I hadn’t done anything of the sort.
I loved Mark more than anything in the world, and I would never do anything to betray him like that.
I would never do anything to hurt him or our marriage.
I had been faithful to him for the entire time that we’d been together, and I’d never even given him any reason to doubt my love for him.
So how could he be so sure?
How could he be this convinced that I had been unfaithful to him when all I’d done was get a text message from my best friend?
“I’m not having an affair,” I whispered to myself as I continued to cry.
“I would never cheat on you, Mark… not ever.”
It was only then that I remembered how he had accused me of gaslighting him before he left.

“I was just talking to my best friend…”
“Who fucking called you wifey!”
Mark was standing across from me on the other side of our living room, his voice hard and cold as he stared at me in disgust.
“How long have you two been fucking each other behind my back?
Is there anyone else in on this little plan of yours?
Or is it just her?”
“Mark, you’re not listening…”
“I don’t want to listen!”
he shouted back at me, his voice filled with an anger that I’d never heard him use before.
“I don’t need you to tell me about how you’ve been cheating on me behind my back!
I saw it on your phone with my own two eyes!
Do you really think that you can lie your way out of this?
That you can tell me that it’s all in my head and expect me to believe you?”
“I-I can explain,” I said with a slight shake of my head.
“It’s n-not wh-what you th-think…”
“Really?”
he asked me with a raised eyebrow.
“Then why don’t you go ahead and tell me how you weren’t cheating on me… while I go pack up some of your stuff for you?
“You can’t be serious…”
I said with a shake of my head, but he just gave me a nod before turning around and walking back down the hallway to our bedroom.
I could hear him opening up our closet and grabbing some of the clothes that were hanging up in there and then stuffing them into one of the suitcases we kept tucked away on the shelf that was up above the rest of our clothes.
He was going to make me leave… even though it wasn’t me who was cheating on him!
He was going to throw me out of our house and make me go and live somewhere else… all because he had seen the text message from my best friend?
“You can’t be serious,” I repeated as he made his way back into the living room and dropped the suitcase onto the floor at my feet.
“This is our life you’re trying to throw away!
Our entire life together!
And you’re doing it all because you think that I’m cheating on you?
What kind of fucked up logic is that?”
“The kind where my wife has been fucking another man behind my back!”
he shouted back at me.
“But you know what?Since it’s my fault, I’ll go ahead and leave instead.
I don’t want anything from you or the life we’ve built together, so I’ll go ahead and let you have it all.
But I’m going to need you to leave first.
So why don’t you go ahead and pack up your things so that you can get the hell out of my house once and for all?”
I could feel the tears pouring down my face as I shook my head ever so slightly.
“I’m not leaving you,” I said, my voice breaking as I did so.
“I haven’t done anything wrong, Mark!
This isn’t fair to me, and it’s definitely not fair to you!
You know how much I love you, and you know I would never do anything to hurt you like this!”
“I know what I saw,” he said as his voice started to crack.
“I know what I read, and I know what it said about how you were calling each other wifey and hubby.
I know what Sarah said about how she had been fucking me over on your behalf for the past few months, and now I know what she meant by it.
Betrayed Hearts
I tried to calm myself and take a deep breath before snatching his phone out of his hand and shoving my own into his hands.
“Read what she said again,” I told him before I held out my phone and showed him the message that Sarah had sent to me.
It was a single text that said, “Hey wifey, is hubby home?”
It was a playful message that was meant to be a joke between the two of us, and it didn’t mean anything.
Sarah had always been more than a little quirky and strange, and Mark knew that about her.
He had known her for years, and he knew that it was just her way of being funny… but for some reason, he had forgotten that fact.
And now he was using it as an excuse to divorce me?
I couldn’t believe this was happening.
I couldn’t believe that my own husband thought that I was cheating on him with one of my best friends.
It didn’t make any sense, and there was no way that I was going to let this be the end of our relationship.
Not when I loved him as much as I did.
Not when we still had so much left to do together.
But all that he did was look down at the text that I was showing him and shake his head.
“You know what that says, Emily,” he said with a cold shrug.
“And you know what I read on your phone.
So why are you trying to deny it?
Why are you trying to act like this isn’t a big deal?
You know how I feel about cheating, and you know that I’m not going to put up with you doing something like this behind my back.
So why don’t you just admit that you fucked up and let me go?
We can both move on with our lives, and we can both be happy again.
Just tell me the truth and this will all be over…”
“But there isn’t any truth to tell!”
I practically shouted at him.
“You know that I haven’t done anything wrong!
And you know that Sarah would never do anything to hurt me, either!
She’s my best friend, Mark!
She would never do anything like that behind my back, and you know it!
This is just a big misunderstanding, and if you would just listen to me-”
“Do you really expect me to listen to you talk in circles like this?”
he asked as he shook his head.
“You think that I’m just going to let you lie to my face over and over again until I finally start to believe what you’re saying?
Well, I’m not!
I’m not going to let you pull the wool over my eyes like this because I already know what’s going on!
I already know what happened, and I’m not stupid enough to believe that there’s an innocent explanation for it!
So why don’t you just stop pretending like you have one and go pack your things so we can both move on with our lives?”
I could feel my heart breaking as I listened to him talk like this.
As I listened to him accuse me of cheating on him with someone who was essentially my sister after all these years together.
After everything that we had gone through.
