I felt my cheeks flush as he reached out to shake my hand, his grip firm and warm, sending shivers down my spine.
I was running late for the work function.
“Hello, Miss Thompson,” he said with a smile that made my stomach do a flip-flop.
“It’s nice to meet you.”
I had a million things to do, and I was still in my jeans and t-shirt.
“You too,” I replied, trying not to let my voice shake too much from nerves.
It was a casual event, but I wanted to look nice.
I had to make an appearance, and I wanted to impress my new boss.
“Are you enjoying the party?”
“I just got here,” he replied, glancing around the room before his gaze settled on me again.
He was a bit of a mystery man, but the rumors were that he was young and sexy.
“It seems like a nice event though.”
I’d been working at the company for years, and I’d seen my fair share of bosses come and go.
“Yeah, it is,” I said, feeling like I was drowning in his intense blue eyes for a moment before pulling myself together again.
Most of them were old men who didn’t know how to use a computer.
“How long have you been working at the company?”
The idea of having a young boss was exciting, but also a little intimidating.
His question took me by surprise, and for a moment, I couldn’t remember what we were talking about.
I’d heard he was tough but fair, and that he expected nothing but the best from his employees.
“Um, almost four years,” I replied after a moment, relieved that I hadn’t forgotten how to speak entirely.
I wasn’t worried though; I always gave one hundred percent at work.
“And what do you do here?”
I quickly changed into my little black dress and slipped on my heels.
I ran a brush through my hair and applied some lipstick before grabbing my purse and heading out the door.
Noah asked with raised eyebrows, and I suddenly felt like an idiot for not knowing what to say next.
How could I forget why I’d come to talk to him?
The event was being held at a fancy hotel downtown, so I called an Uber to take me there.
I’d only ever met Noah in passing and had heard a few things about him, but I was nervous to meet him.
“I’m the head of the marketing department,” I replied, feeling even more embarrassed than before.
I couldn’t believe I’d forgotten that.
I guess I was used to the old-school guys who didn’t care about anything but results.
I was worried he wouldn’t appreciate all the late nights I’d been putting in or the fact that I always went above and beyond in my job.
“Oh, very impressive,” Noah said with a smile that made my knees go weak for a moment before I regained control of myself.
“I’ve heard good things about your work.”
My mind was racing as I thought about what I was going to say to him and how I could make an impression.
I smiled back at him, feeling relieved that I hadn’t completely ruined the conversation.
I finally arrived at the hotel, and I quickly got out of the car and paid the driver.
I’d worked hard to get to where I was in my career, and it felt amazing to be recognized for all the effort I’d put in.
It was a warm day, and there were people everywhere, enjoying the sunshine.
I could feel a light breeze on my skin as I walked towards the hotel, and it made me feel calmer.
I knew I had a lot to offer the company and that I would be an asset to Noah.
I just hoped he felt the same way.
When I got inside, I headed towards the conference room where the meeting was being held.
I could hear the hum of people talking as I walked down the hallway, and it made me even more nervous.
We chatted for a few more minutes before I excused myself and went off to find Elena again.
I wanted to spend some time with her before the meeting started and we all had to go back to work.
I took a deep breath and pushed open the door, stepping inside and looking around.
I wondered what working for Noah would be like and how it would be different from my old boss.
The room was full of people, chatting away as they sipped wine and nibbled on appetizers that were being passed around by waiters.
I looked around nervously, my eyes scanning the crowd for Noah.
I’d heard he was tough, but I didn’t think he would be too bad.
He seemed like a nice guy so far.
There were so many new faces, but none of them were his.
I glanced over at Noah as I talked with Elena and saw him looking at me from across the room.
I took another deep breath before walking over to my best friend Elena who looked as elegant and graceful as ever with her flowing dark hair and flawless makeup.
“There you are,” she said, giving me a big hug.
I quickly looked away and tried to concentrate on what she was saying.
She was telling me some story about her new boyfriend and how excited she was to introduce him to everyone tonight.
“Sorry I’m late,” I said, looking around the room for Noah.
“Good luck with your new boss,” she said with a smile.
“He sounds perfect for you,” I said with a smile as I turned to face her.
“I’m sure he’ll love you.”
“I can’t wait to meet him.”
“I hope so,” I said anxiously.
I glanced over at Noah and saw him watching us with a small smile on his face.
I quickly looked away again and tried not to let it bother me too much.
“Have you met him yet?”
She shook her head.
I mean, I knew he would be my new boss and all, but that didn’t mean we couldn’t be friends.
He seemed like a nice guy so far.
“No, he hasn’t started yet.”
And he was definitely hot.
I sighed with relief and gave her a hug before heading off into the crowd in search of Noah.
I’d been working at the company for years, and I’d never seen such a big deal made about a new boss before.
I mean, I’d seen him from across the room a few times over the last hour or so and couldn’t help but notice how good-looking he was.
Noah Reed had just taken over as the CEO of the company, and he was the man of the hour.
He was tall and well-built with broad shoulders and strong arms that strained against his suit as he moved.
His suit was perfectly tailored and expensive-looking, and he had this air of power and wealth about him that made me feel weak in the knees.
I’d heard all sorts of things about him, and I was excited to finally meet him and put a face to the name.
As I walked through the crowd, I could feel people’s eyes on me, and I knew they were all talking about me behind my back.

I pushed those thoughts out of my head and focused on finding Noah.
Time seemed to slow down, and for a moment I felt like we were the only two people in the world.
He was standing across the room, talking to a group of men, and I made my way over to him as quickly as possible, trying not to draw too much attention to myself.
I made it over to him in record time and cleared my throat to get his attention before introducing myself.
Noah’s eyes were so intense, so full of heat and desire that I felt like I was drowning in them.

I could feel myself getting lost in the blue of his gaze, and I had to remind myself to breathe.
We were still at a work function, after all.
Noah Reed might be ruggedly handsome and have eyes that could melt the panties off any woman, but he was still going to be my boss.
Which meant I needed to keep things strictly professional between us.
No matter how much chemistry there was between us.
I quickly introduced Noah to a few of my colleagues who were standing nearby, trying not to let the heat in his gaze distract me too much.
He shook their hands and chatted with them for a few minutes before it was finally time for the meeting to start.
We all headed into the conference room and took our seats at the long table.
I couldn’t help but steal a few glances at Noah as we all waited for the meeting to start.
He was sitting at the head of the table and talking with a few of the other executives.
I couldn’t hear what he was saying, but I could see his lips moving and the way his arms tensed as he leaned forward.
The man was pure sex on a stick, and he knew it too.
He carried himself with confidence and ease, and when he walked into a room, everyone stopped and stared.
Noah was everything I’d heard he was and more—confident, charming, and undeniably attractive.
And if he kept looking at me like that, I was going to have a very hard time keeping my hands off him.
I looked away from Noah and tried to focus on the conversation Elena was having with the woman next to her.
I didn’t want to get caught staring at Noah and have my new boss think I was some kind of stalker or something.
But it was hard not to look at him.
“I’m not sure.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”
Elena smiled at her and nodded, then turned back to face me.
“The rumors about his managerial style are true you know,” she said in a low voice, leaning in closer so no one else could hear us.
“He’s tough and demanding and expects nothing but the best from his employees.”
“I know,” I said with a sigh.
“And I intend to give it to him.”
“No matter what?”
“No matter what,” I replied firmly.
“I’ve worked too hard to get to where I am now to let some hot guy come between me and my career.”
Elena grinned at me and gave me a hug.
“I’m proud of you, Ava,” she said.
“You’re going to do great.”
“Thanks,” I said as we pulled away from each other.
“You’re the best friend a girl could ask for.”

Ava, I heard Noah say, his voice deep and alluring as he laughed at something one of the other men said to him, and I turned to see what was so funny.
And my breath caught in my throat as I looked at him, my heart skipping a beat when our eyes met.
Noah was standing up and talking to one of the other executives, his arms crossed over his chest as he listened to whatever the other man was saying to him.
His tie was a little crooked, and his hair was falling into his eyes, making him look even sexier than he already was.
And I could see why everyone was so enamored with him and why he was known for being a bit of a player.
He was incredibly good-looking and had a sexy, confident smile that could melt the panties off any woman within a ten-mile radius.
But Noah was more than just a pretty face with the body of an Adonis and a killer smile that could light up the darkest room.
He was also smart and charming and an incredibly talented businessman who knew how to get what he wanted—both in life and in the boardroom.
I watched as Noah tossed his head back and laughed, flashing his signature grin and making the other man laugh too, then glanced over at the group of women standing nearby to see whose attention he had caught this time.
And my heart raced in my chest when I saw him looking at me, a knowing smile on his handsome face that made me feel like he could see right through me.
It felt like someone had just poured a bucket of ice water over my head, and I shivered as I realized Noah had caught me staring at him.
And not for the first time either, if the smug look on his face was anything to go by.
I quickly looked away and pretended I hadn’t been watching him, feeling a rush of heat flood my cheeks as I tried to compose myself and stop my hands from shaking with nerves.
I was getting ahead of myself, I knew, but the last thing I needed was for Noah to think I was some kind of stalker or something before we’d even started working together.
So I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down, then glanced back up at him when I felt someone tap me on the shoulder.
It was Elena, who was standing next to me now, watching the interaction between Noah and me with an amused expression on her elegant face that made me want to smack her.
She knew how much this introduction meant to me and that I didn’t want to mess it up by embarrassing myself in front of our new boss on my first day on the job.
