Green Lantern Hal Jordan goes to the future with Bosloster Gold and Blue Beetle to fight an evil version of Guardians on Oa
“What the hell happened here?”
I ask myself, standing in despair at the sight.
Oa has been destroyed.
Giant craters cover the landscape, and the power batteries are either shattered or drained.
It’s… so dead.
It’s so different from the Oa I know.
The Oa I know is…
It’s beautiful, full of life, and watched over by the Guardians of the Universe.
The Guardians are beings of pure willpower who have dedicated themselves to watching over the universe and protecting it from threats like this.
But now… they’re gone too?
“Is this really what our future looks like?”
“Yeah,” my comrade, Bosloster Gold, says as he scans the area with his wrist-mounted computer.
He and our buddy, Blue Beetle, have been with me throughout this entire mission.
Blue Beetle is currently flying over us in his armor scanning the area as well.
This is just a routine mission for us, but now, I don’t even know where to start.
“Hey, is that…?”
I look at a small figure in a green suit flying towards us.
I then realize who it is.
“The last Green Lantern…”
I say to myself.
He flies down to us, and I’m able to see him better now.
He has a muscular build with spiky hair that sticks out in wild angles.
His hair is brown, similar to mine, but his eyes are hidden behind his domino mask.
What really stands out about him is his right arm.
The armor on his arm has been ripped off, revealing his flesh underneath it.
He must have suffered major injuries and lost his arm at some point…
As he gets closer, he raises his left arm and says, “Who are you?
“What are you doing here?”
I raise my right hand to show him my power ring and say, “Don’t worry. We’re here to help.”
He seems relieved when he sees my power ring and lands in front of us.
“Thank goodness,” he says.
“It’s about time someone came to help.”
“What happened here?”
Booster asks.
“Why is Oa destroyed?”
“It was parallax,” he says.
“He came back and destroyed everything.”
“Parallax?”
Blue Beetle asks.
“Isn’t that Hal’s villain name?
The name he used when he went crazy?”
“Yeah, that’s right,” Kyle says.
“And there’s a reason for that. When we tried to stop him, he used some kind of device to take control of all the power rings.
This was only possible because the Guardians were unable to get their rings back after they were stolen.
It was all part of his plan.”
“What do you mean by ‘tried’?”
I ask, feeling anxious.
Kyle hesitates before answering, “We lost.
They were too strong…”
“Then we need to stop them,” I say.
“If we don’t, they’ll rewrite history and change our future.”
“I know, but it won’t be easy,” Kyle says.
Timeless Betrayal
“Not only did they take control of the power rings, but they also destroyed the Oan Central Power Battery.
This means that you can’t recharge your rings.
You’ll have to use them sparingly.”
There are six of us and only three of them.
We can do this,” I say.
“Actually, there are more of them than you think,” Kyle says with a frown.
“I don’t know how many, but they’re definitely not alone.”
“Then let’s go kick their asses,” Booster says eagerly.
“This is why we came here in the first place.”
“Yeah…” I say.
“We’ll put a stop to this.”
“Hold on,” Kyle says before I can take off.
“There’s something else you should know.”
“What is it?”
I ask, feeling anxious again.
“You might want to sit down for this,” Kyle says.
“I think it’s safe to assume that you’ve already met the evil Guardians of the Universe.”
“We have,” I say.
“They’re the ones who sent us here.”
“Exactly,” Kyle says.
“They sent you here as part of their plan to change history.
They knew that you would try to stop them from changing the timeline, so they made sure that you would be the last ones to arrive.
“So, what you’re saying is…” I say, feeling a chill run down my spine.
“Everything that happened was their plan all along?
They knew we would come here and try to stop them, so they made sure that they could use us to help them change history?”
“Yeah,” Kyle says.
“It’s a trap, and we fell right into it.
I’m already too late to warn the others, but I managed to send a distress call to you guys before it was too late.
Whatever you do, don’t go back to your time.
It’ll be too dangerous.”
“Too dangerous for who?”
I ask, feeling confused.
“It’ll be too dangerous for everyone,” Kyle says.
“Once they change history, no one will remember what happened except for you guys.
If you go back to your time, there’s a good chance that they’ll sense it and try to erase you from existence.”
“That doesn’t make any sense,” Booster says.
“If they have the power to change history, then why haven’t they done it already?”
“I think I know why,” I say, feeling a sense of urgency.
“The evil Guardians must have taken control of the Oan Central Power Battery.
“This means that they have the power to reshape reality,” Kyle says.
“If they manage to get all of your rings, then there will be no way to stop them.”
“We won’t let that happen,” I say.
“We’ll put a stop to this.”
“Good luck,” Kyle says as he takes off.
“Remember, the fate of the universe is in your hands.
Actually, the fate of every universe depends on it…”
I watch as Kyle flies away, and I can’t help but feel responsible for this mess.
This wouldn’t have happened if we had just stayed out of it.
Maybe we should have listened to the other Green Lanterns when they told us to stay away from the evil Guardians…
“Alright, let’s go kick some ass!”
Booster yells as he flies towards the source of the distress call.
“Wait!”
I say, stopping him.
“The Oan Central Power Battery is over there.
If we use our rings, they’ll detect us for sure.”
“Then what do you suggest?”
he asks impatiently.
I hesitate for a moment before making my decision.
I then take my ring off and leave it on the ground.
Timeless Betrayal
We make our way through the ruins of Oa, and I can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu as I look at the piles of debris all around me.
It reminds me of the time when I was possessed by Parallax and destroyed the Corps.
It brings back painful memories, but I know that I can’t let them get in the way of my mission.
We eventually reach the main power battery, and I can already tell that something is wrong.
The evil Guardians have drained most of its energy, and all that’s left is darkness.
There are no lights in the Power Battery, and the only thing that shines is a beam of light from above.
“They’re using this place to power themselves,” I say as I look at the beam of light.
“Then let’s shut it down!”
Booster yells as he fires his blasters at the beam of light.
The blasters are able to destroy everything in their path, and they cut through the beam like butter.
The beam of light disappears as soon as Booster destroys it, and we’re suddenly plunged into darkness.
“What the hell?”
Booster says, looking around.
“I can’t see anything in here.”
“Keep your eyes peeled,” I tell him.
“We might have company…”
As soon as I finish my sentence, we see a group of robotic soldiers standing in front of us.
They look like they’re angry, and they’re all pointing their guns at us…
“A group of evil Manhunters?”
Booster says as he looks at the robots.
“Where do these guys keep coming from?”
“I have no idea,” I say as I look at the robots.
“But I’m not going down without a fight!”
I then charge my power ring and create a giant shield to protect us from their gunfire.
Booster and Blue Beetle are able to take cover behind the shield, and we’re able to destroy most of the robots with our combined firepower.
However, there are still some left, and they quickly surround us…
“So much for not going down without a fight,” Booster says as he looks at the robots.
“Don’t worry,” I say with a smile.
“They may have numbers, but we have something that they don’t…”
“And what’s that?”
Booster says as he looks at me.
“Willpower!”
I then charge my ring with all my willpower and create a giant construct that sends the Manhunters flying into the air.
They’re then quickly destroyed by Blue Beetle’s alien tech and Booster’s weapons, and we’re finally able to catch our breaths…
“That was too close…”
Booster says as he catches his breaths.
“At least they were no Red Lanterns around…”
As soon as Booster finishes his sentence, we hear a loud roar coming from behind us.
We turn around and see that we’ve been surrounded by an even larger group of Manhunters, along with a bunch of Red Lanterns…
“If you guys wanted to join our little party, you could have just asked,” Atrocitus says as he lands on the ground in front of us.
“You didn’t have to go through all that trouble.”
“We’ll pass,” I say as I charge my power ring with all my willpower.
“We prefer crashing parties instead…”
“This is going to be fun!”
Timeless Betrayal
The first time I met my father, he was already dead…
I still remember it like it was yesterday… I had just been chosen to be the Green Lantern, and I was making my way towards my home to show my father my new ring…
I was so excited to show him what I had accomplished, but when I arrived at my house, I saw two soldiers standing at the door.
My mother was crying behind them, and I knew that something terrible had happened…
The soldiers then told me that my father died in a plane crash, and that his plane had never been found…
It was like I lost him twice: once when he died, and once when his plane disappeared…
I tried to find his plane myself, but I never had any luck…
I never got to say goodbye to him, and I never got to tell him how much he meant to me…
He was always there for me when I needed him, and he was always very supportive of everything I did…
He was the one who encouraged me to become a pilot like him, and he was the one who gave me my first aviation lessons…
If it wasn’t for him, I don’t think I ever would have become the man that I am today…
He was my hero, and I always wanted to become just like him…
But then he died, and everything changed for me…
My father’s death was one of the most painful moments in my life, but it also helped shape me into who I am today… The man who would later become the greatest Green Lantern in the universe…
But what if he was still alive?
What if he didn’t die in that plane crash?
What if an Oan chose him instead of me?
What if he was the one who became the Green Lantern?
What if he was chosen to protect the universe instead?
I never thought about it before, but now that we’re traveling to the future to stop the evil Guardians from rewriting history, I can’t help but wonder what could have been…
“What’s wrong, Hal?”
Booster says as he looks at me.
“Do you have a bad feeling about this?”
“No, it’s not that,” I say as I look at him.
“It’s just… My dad was a pilot, and he died in a plane crash when I was young…”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Booster says as he puts his hand on my shoulder.
“That must have been really tough for you…”
“It was,” I say with a smile.
“But it also made me into who I am today…”
“I never got to say goodbye to him, and I never got to tell him how much he meant to me…”
“You could always do it now…”
“I could always do what now?”
Blue Beetle says as he joins us.
“Talk to your dead dad?”
“Maybe he’s not dead in this future…”
Booster says with a smile.
“Maybe he became a Green Lantern instead!
Wouldn’t it be great if he’s still alive and kicking?”
“Yeah, it would be great,” I say with a smile.
“But something tells me that it’s not going to be that easy…”
“Then we’ll help you through it!”
Booster says with a smile.
Timeless Betrayal
“Thanks, man,” I say with a smile as we continue on our journey.
The ground is breaking apart around us, and the ruins of Oa are threatening to consume us whole, but we’re not going to let them stop us from reaching the evil Guardians…
After all, we’ve come too far to give up now…
“Our readings are off the charts!”
Booster yells as he looks at his wrist computer.
“There are traps everywhere!”
“Good thing we have you then!”
I say as we jump over a chasm.
“Remind me again why we’re doing this without our rings?”
Blue Beetle says as he holds his alien gun tightly.
“It’s not like our friends can’t send them back for us…”
“It’s because we don’t know how strong the evil Guardians are!”
I say as we continue on our journey.
“They were able to take out all the other Green Lanterns in less than a minute!
Our rings may not even work against them!
We need to find their source of power before we can do anything else!”
“And how do you suggest we do that?”
“We follow the yellow brick road!”
I say as we jump over a pile of rubble.
“And what if it leads us into a trap?”
“You think too much!”
I say as I run faster.
“Come on, let’s go!”
“What the heck is a yellow brick road anyway?”
Blue Beetle asks as he follows us.
“I’ll tell you later!”
I say as we run through the ruins.
We only had a few minutes left before the evil Guardians finish rewriting history and trap us in the future forever, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to give up!
Not without a fight!
“Do you see that?”
Booster says as he points at a wall.
“There’s something behind it!”
“Then let’s go through it!”
I say as I punch straight through the wall and reveal a hidden chamber behind it.
“It’s the Central Power Battery!”
Blue Beetle says as he looks at all the cables and wires connected to it.
“But what is it doing here?”
“It’s not important,” Booster says as he pushes past us.
“What is he doing?”
Blue Beetle asks as he follows him.
“I don’t know,” I say as I join them.
“But what I do know is that we need to hurry!
We’re running out of time!”
“I know, but if Booster thinks that there’s something important in here, then there must be something important in here…”
He says as he looks around the room.
“And what do you think it is?”
I say as I join him.
“It’s not just a Central Power Battery,” he says as he points at the hourglass behind it.
“There’s something else behind it…”
“We don’t have time for this!”
I say as I push him aside and punch through the glass!
“The evil Guardians may have all the time in the world, but we don’t have a minute to spare!
We need to hurry before it’s too late!”
“I’m not so sure about that…”
Blue Beetle says with a frown on his face as he looks at what’s behind the glass.
“Now what is he doing?”
