My best friend since I was little is helping me move into my new house. I am short and curvy with long red hair. My best friend, Grant, is tall and muscular. He has short blond hair. Things get a little hot
“Are you sure you don’t want me to come with you?”
Grant asked, his voice laced with concern.
I shook my head and smiled at him.
“I’ll be fine, Grant.
I’m a big girl, I can handle it.”
He gave me a look that said he didn’t believe me, but I ignored it.
I was a big girl, and I could handle it.
I was just nervous, that’s all.
This was a big step for me, and I wanted to do it on my own.
Grant had been there for me every step of the way, and I couldn’t have done this without him.
But now it was time for me to take the next step on my own.
Grant pulled up in front of the house and turned off the engine.
We both sat there for a moment, staring at the house in front of us.
It was a cute little two-story with a white picket fence and a small garden out front.
The windows were all covered with dark curtains, so I couldn’t see inside, but from what I could tell from the outside it was perfect.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to come in with you?”
I shook my head and turned to face him.
“I’ll be fine, Grant.
I need to do this on my own.”
He gave me a reluctant smile.
“If you’re sure…”
I laughed and leaned over to give him a hug.
“Yeah, I’m sure.
Thanks for everything, though.
I don’t know what I would have done without you.”
He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close.
“Well, you won’t ever have to find out, because I’ll always be here for you, no matter what.”
I smiled at him and squeezed him tight.
“Thanks, Grant.I love you.”
He pulled back and looked down at me.
“I love you too, Em.And I’m so proud of you.
This is a big deal, and I know you can do it.”
I smiled up at him and nodded.
“Thank you.” Then I opened the car door and stepped out onto the curb.
I pulled my bag out of the back seat and turned back to look at Grant.
“Go on, I’ll see you later,” he said with a smile.
I smiled back and waved at him as he drove away, before turning back to face the house in front of me.
This was it, I thought as I took a deep breath and walked up the pathway to the front door.
I was finally going to be on my own, living in my own place, and taking care of myself.
It was scary, but it was also exciting, and I couldn’t wait to get started.
Grant had been my best friend since we were kids.
We’d grown up in the same neighborhood and spent our days playing together in the park down the street from our houses.
Grant had always been really tall for his age, and he’d been taller than me from about the time he hit puberty.
At six foot five with a muscular build and short blond hair, he was pretty much every girl’s dream guy, and he could have had any girl he wanted.
But he’d never been interested in anyone else.
At least not that I knew of.
It was possible that he’d dated girls behind my back and I just didn’t know about it, but I doubted it.
We told each other everything, and I was pretty sure he would have mentioned any new girls in his life.
But even if he’d never dated anyone before, that still didn’t explain why he wasn’t interested in me.
I was only five foot two and as curvy as they came.
I had long red hair and bright green eyes, and as far as I could tell I was pretty cute.
But for some reason Grant had never looked at me that way.
He saw me as more of a little sister than a potential girlfriend.
And I was okay with that.
I couldn’t imagine my life without him.
He was always there for me when I needed him, and I knew I could always count on him no matter what.
He knew me almost as well as I knew myself, and he understood me in a way that no one else did.
Unexpected Desires: A Steamy Encounter
“Why is it so hard for you to believe that I’m an independent woman?”
Grant asked as we made our way through town.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
“I’m not saying it’s hard for me to believe.I’m just saying it’s hard for you to let me be one.”
Grant laughed and glanced over at me.
“But that’s because I care about you, Em.You’re like a little sister to me.I don’t want you to get hurt.”
I scowled at him and crossed my arms over my chest.
“I’m not going to get hurt.I know what I’m doing.”
“Yeah, but why do it alone when you don’t have to?”
I rolled my eyes and sighed.
“Because I want to.I don’t need someone to hold my hand all the time.”
“Fine,” he said with a shrug.
“I just think you could use some help once in a while.”
“And I think you need to stop being so overprotective,” I retorted.
He opened his mouth to say something else but then just shook his head and sighed.
“You’re impossible,” he muttered as he turned back to the road.
I smiled and nudged him.
“That’s why you love me.”
He glanced over at me and smiled.
“Yes it is,” he said with a wink.
I laughed and shook my head.
“Don’t get any ideas. This doesn’t mean you’re off the hook.”
He chuckled and shook his head.
“I wouldn’t dream of it.” Then he glanced down at the GPS on his phone and turned onto the street where my new house was located.
A few minutes later we pulled up in front of the house and climbed out of the car.
As we made our way up the pathway to the front door, I couldn’t help but think about how much had changed since we were kids.
We were both all grown up now with real jobs and responsibilities.
But even after all these years, nothing had changed when it came to our friendship.
We still got along just as well as we had when we were kids, and we still spent as much time together as we could.
“You sure you’re going to be okay?”
Grant asked as he turned to face me outside my new house.
I smiled and nodded.
“I’ll be fine. You worry too much.”
He scowled at me and crossed his arms over his chest.
“You know why I worry.I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
I sighed and rolled my eyes.
“You can’t protect me forever, you know.I’m not a little kid anymore.”
He stared down at me for a moment before pulling me into a tight hug.
“You’re right,” he said.
“You’re not a little kid anymore. And you’re stronger and more independent than you realize.I just want you to be happy.”
I smiled up at him and wrapped my arms around his waist.

“And I am happy, Grant.Because you’re here with me.” I pressed a quick kiss to his cheek and pulled away from the hug, suddenly feeling self-conscious and unsure about how he would react to my sudden display of affection.
He blinked at me for a moment before a slow smile spread across his face.
“You’re pretty amazing, you know that?”
I blushed and shrugged.
“Eh, I have my moments.”
He chuckled and shook his head.
“You’re so modest.” He leaned in and pressed his lips to my forehead.
“And that’s one of the things I love most about you.”
I smiled and glanced down at the ground, grateful that he couldn’t see my face because I was sure I was blushing profusely.
“Well, I love you too, Grant. And I really appreciate you being here with me today.”
He chuckled and pulled away from the hug, shaking his head.
“You know I would never miss this for anything. You’re my best friend, Em.I’d do anything for you.”
I smiled at him, feeling an overwhelming sense of happiness as I gazed into his blue eyes.
“I know. And I’d do anything for you too,” I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.
His gaze locked with mine for a moment before he pulled away and glanced down at his watch.
“We should probably get started if we want to be finished by nightfall.”
I nodded and grabbed a few boxes from the trunk of his car, carrying them inside the house one by one with Grant following behind me.
He was right—there was a lot of work to be done, and it was going to be a long day.
But having him there with me made everything easier.
Not only was he helping me with the heavy lifting, but his presence helped to calm my nerves and put my mind at ease as I settled into my new home.
Wiping the sweat from my forehead, I nodded in agreement and followed him inside.
“Not bad,” he said as he set down an armful of boxes in the entryway of the house and glanced around at the spacious living room that was filled with natural light from the large windows that lined the walls.
“It’s not as big as your apartment,” I said, walking over to him and setting down a few boxes of my own on the floor beside his feet.
“But it’s perfect for me.And it’s in a great neighborhood with good schools. And there’s even a little park down the street where I can take the kids to play.” My voice trailed off as I gazed around the room, feeling an overwhelming sense of happiness wash over me once again.
Grant leaned down and grabbed a few more boxes from the trunk of his car before following me inside.
As he set them down on the floor beside mine, he glanced around the room once more and smiled at me.
“You know what this place is, don’t you?”
Unexpected Desires: A Steamy Encounter
“I love it, Emily,” Grant said once we had finished unloading all the boxes and were standing on the front porch of my new house.
I smiled up at him, feeling a wave of happiness wash over me once again.
It was a beautiful sunny day, with clear blue skies and a light breeze blowing the leaves on the trees that lined the street.
My new house was a quaint two-story with a white picket fence, a small garden, and a big backyard with a swing set.
It was perfect—and it felt like the perfect place to start fresh after everything that had happened.
As I gazed up at him, my smile widened at the sight of his bright blue eyes, the corners crinkling as he beamed down at me.
“I think so too,” I said, nodding my head.
“It’s a great neighborhood. And not too far from the city. It’ll be perfect for the kids.” The smile on his face widened as he gazed down at me.
“I’m just glad that you’re happy, Em.And you feel safe here?”
he asked, his voice laced with concern.
I chuckled and shook my head.
“You sound like a worried mother hen!”
He grinned down at me and nodded his head.
“I am though! This is a big change for you and the kids.
I just want to make sure you’re going to be okay.”
I smiled at him and placed my hand on his arm.
“Thank you, Grant.I really appreciate it.And yes, I feel perfectly safe here.
The neighborhood is great, and everyone has been really nice so far.”
His smile widened even further, and he wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into his side.
“Good,” he said in a gruff voice.
“Because if anyone messes with you, they’re going to have to answer to me.”
I chuckled and shook my head.
“You sound like my big brother.”
He sighed and rolled his eyes dramatically.
“I’m just trying to look out for you!And if you would have let me help you move in like I offered instead of doing it all by yourself, you wouldn’t have to keep reminding yourself that you’re perfectly capable of taking care of yourself!”
I glared up at him and shoved him playfully on his chest.
“Stop picking on me!”
he teased, raising his hands in surrender.
then I guess you’ll be happy to know that I’ll be staying here with you until you’re all settled in and comfortable.”
I stared up at him in shock and shook my head.
“I don’t need you to stay with me, Grant.I can take care of myself.”
He raised his eyebrows at me and crossed his arms over his chest.
“Em, I know you can.But it’s going to be dark soon.
The kids are only going to be here on the weekends.
You’re going to be all alone in this big house all by yourself.”
I sighed and shook my head.
“I’m not completely alone!I have you and all my friends.”
He raised his eyebrows at me again and smirked.
“Well then I guess you won’t mind if I stay the night,” he replied.
I glared up at him and shook my head.
Unexpected Desires: A Steamy Encounter
“Grant, don’t do this.
He raised his eyebrows at me again and smirked.
“Do what?”
I narrowed my eyes at him and folded my arms across my chest.
“You know what,” I replied.
He chuckled and wrapped his arm around my shoulders again and squeezed me tightly against his side.
“I’m not going to let you argue with me about this, Emily,” he said firmly.
“You’re stuck with me for the night while we get everything unpacked and put away.
And then tomorrow I’ll take the kids out of your hair so you can finish decorating.
You can’t stop me from being here for you when you need help.”
I rolled my eyes at him and sighed as he tightened his hold on me.
He was right—I couldn’t stop him from being there for me whenever I needed him because that was just who he was.
Grant had an overwhelming need to take care of the people he cared about—especially me—and sometimes it drove me absolutely insane.
But it was also one of the things I loved most about him.
I grinned up at him and shrugged.
“Fine, who am I to argue?”
“So I can stay?”
I rolled my eyes at him.
“Yes, you can stay. You can take the spare room, which is already set up.
And then tomorrow we can figure out where you’re going to sleep for the rest of the weekend.”
He chuckled and shook his head.
“Okay, then it’s settled,” he said.
“Now, let’s move your stuff inside before it gets dark.
I have to be back at the station in a few hours.”
I nodded and followed him to the back of his truck to start unloading.
But just as I reached up to grab one of the boxes, Grant’s arm closed around my waist, pulling me back against his chest.
“What are you doing?”
I asked, trying to shake myself free from his grip.
Grant shook his head and wrapped his other arm around me as well, holding me tightly against him.
“You don’t have to do that,” he said in a low voice.
I sighed heavily and shook my head.
“Do you really think I can’t handle moving a few boxes by myself?”
I asked as I tried to wriggle free from his hold.
He held me still and sighed heavily.
“That’s not the point, and you know it,” he said.
“I just don’t want you to overdo it or hurt yourself.”
I glared up at him and shook my head once more.
“You’re treating me like I’m some kind of fragile doll!”
I exclaimed, trying to shove myself free from his hold once more.
“Just let me go so we can finish unloading these boxes before it gets dark!”
“Are you going to be okay?”
he asked, his voice full of concern.
I sighed and nodded, finally giving up on my struggle to break free from his hold.
“Yes, I’m going to be fine,” I replied.
“I’m not going to overdo it, and I’m not going to hurt myself.
I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself, Grant.I promise you that I will ask for help if I need it.But right now, can we please just get this stuff inside?”
His eyes searched mine and his lips pressed together in a thin line.
“I don’t like this,” he muttered.
“I know you don’t,” I replied with a soft smile.
Unexpected Desires: A Steamy Encounter
I know you don’t like it.
“But I have to do this, Grant,” I said seriously.
“I have to prove that I can take care of myself.
I have to prove that I can handle living on my own without you guys constantly worrying about me.
I have to prove that I can actually do this.
And the only way to do that is to do it on my own.”
He stared down at me in silence for several seconds before finally nodding his head.
“Okay,” he muttered.
“Okay, fine.I’ll stop treating you like a fragile doll. And I’ll let you do this on your own.I’ll let you show us that you can handle it.” He paused and sighed heavily before adding, “But if you change your mind, or if you need anything, or if anything goes wrong, just call me.
Come find me wherever I am and I will come get you.
You know that, right?”
I smiled up at him and nodded.
“Yes, I know,” I replied with a grin.
“But I promise that everything is going to be okay. And I promise that if I need help, I will ask for it.
I promise that I will be fine.
Grant held my gaze for several more seconds before nodding once more and finally releasing my waist.
“Okay,” he muttered.
“Now, let’s get these boxes inside before it gets dark.”
A few hours later, we had finally finished unloading the truck and had moved all of my stuff inside the house.
We were both exhausted and starving, but at least the hard work was done.
Grant had convinced me to go back out to the truck with him to get our bags so that we could take them inside, but as I started down the steps, my foot caught on the last one and I stumbled forward with a surprised yelp.
By some miracle, Grant managed to catch me before I fell flat on my face.
He wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me back against his chest as he held me tightly against him.
“Are you okay?”
he asked as he stared down at me.
“I didn’t hurt you, did I?”
I looked up at him and shook my head, but before I could say anything, I fell silent.
As I gazed up at him, I suddenly noticed how incredibly close we were standing, how perfectly our bodies seemed to fit together, how he was holding me so tightly against him, how he was staring down at me with his lips parted and his chest heaving with each breath he took, how my hands were gripping the front of his shirt tightly, how my heart was pounding in my chest, how my skin felt like it was on fire, how my body was tingling with excitement, how I wanted more than anything for him to close the distance between us and kiss me.
