The Hockey Alpha was My Childhood Sweetheart is a werewolf romance novel that follows the story of Shana, a girl who discovers she is "wolfless" or without a werewolf counterpart. The novel explores Shana's journey of self-discovery and finding love despite her perceived flaw of being wolfless in a world of werewolves.
Shana Thompson’s eighteenth birthday celebration took a turn for the worse when her father announced, in front of the entire family, that she was “wolfless.”
The declaration was met with silence and awkwardness from Shana’s relatives, all of whom were werewolves.
The festive atmosphere was destroyed in a single instant.
When someone asked how it could even happen, Shana’s father, the Alpha of the pack, said, “Only God knows.”
That night, Shana learned that she was different.
Her parents’ tears and the solemn expressions of the others had made that clear.
She’d always known she was unlike her family in many ways.
But until that moment, she’d never realized what a huge difference it was.
From then on, she knew she would be branded as wolfless, as if she had a rare disease that would make the pack members look at her with disgust.
She couldn’t help but wonder if they would still want her as their Luna.
The only thing that broke the silence was the scraping of chairs as people got up to leave the room.
Shana’s mother quickly wiped her tears away and patted Shana on the back.
“Happy birthday, baby,” she said.
“I’ll be in my room if you need me.”
Shana wished her parents had been more discreet about it.
She didn’t want her brother to worry about her or feel sorry for her.
Ethan gave her a pitying look and got up to follow their parents upstairs.
Shana knew he was too young to understand what wolfless meant, but he could tell how unhappy their parents were.
Their father took a deep breath and cleared his throat.
“Come on, let’s not ruin Shana’s birthday,” he said with a forced smile.
“Ethan, why don’t you cut the cake?”
Ethan nodded silently and picked up the knife beside Shana’s birthday cake.
He hesitated for a moment, looking from one side to another, until someone clapped him on his back and grinned at him encouragingly.
“You can do this, buddy,” Alex said.
Ethan quickly regained his confidence and started cutting the cake excitedly.
As soon as everyone had a slice, Shana’s father cleared his throat and motioned for everyone to sit down.
Shana’s mother came back down and sat at the head of the table.
Once everyone was settled, Jackson, one of the warriors, stood up and took a small box out of his pocket.
“This is a gift from all of us,” he said.
Shana smiled gratefully at everyone.
She loved presents, but she could tell that they only came up with this idea out of pity.
The arrival of Jackson’s present made Shana feel like she was sitting on pins and needles.
She felt like no matter how hard she tried, there would always be a huge divide between her and her family.
It didn’t take long for Shana’s suspicions to be confirmed.
After everyone left, Shana’s father called her into his study and sat her down in front of him.
His face softened when he saw her expression.
“I know you’re upset, but I didn’t mean any harm by it,” he said gently.
“I just didn’t know how else to explain it.
How did you find out?”
Shana flinched at the question and looked down at her hands, which were folded tightly on her lap.
Her father sighed and rubbed the back of his neck wearily.
“Shana, if you don’t want to tell us, that’s fine,” he said, looking apologetic all of a sudden.
“We don’t want to force you to do anything you don’t want to do.”
Shana looked up at her father in surprise and opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out.
Her father frowned and reached out to pat her hand comforting.
“You’re not in trouble, Shana,” he said gently.
Shana shook her head and swallowed nervously before she finally spoke up.
“I asked Grandma if I was wolfless,” she said quietly.
“Why would you do that?”
Her father asked, looking confused.
Shana hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to tell him the truth or not, but she decided that there was no point in hiding it anymore.
“Because I’ve never shifted,” she said.
Her father’s mouth fell open and he stared at Shana with wide eyes, as if he’d seen a ghost.
“But…you’re eighteen years old!”
Shana flinched at his shocked expression and looked down at her hands again.
“I know,” she mumbled.
“I’ve been wondering about it for a while now, but I didn’t want to disappoint anyone.”
Her father sighed and stroked his beard thoughtfully before speaking up again.
“Maybe you’re just a late bloomer,” he said, trying to lighten the mood with a smile.
“You know that your mother didn’t shift until she was twenty.”
Shana’s heart ached at the memory of her mother telling her about it when she was nine years old during the time when Shana started to wonder why she hadn’t shifted like everyone else in her family had.
Even though Shana hadn’t shifted yet, she still showed signs of becoming one of them.
She could run faster than the boys in her school, her senses were better than average, and she was able to keep up with the rest of the pack when they went on their runs every full moon night.
She’d always thought that she would be able to shift eventually, but it never happened.
After talking to Grandma, Shana thought maybe it was because she was a late bloomer, but now that she was eighteen and still hadn’t shifted yet, it was clear that she was wolfless after all.
As soon as Shana got back to her room, she went to the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror.
She ran her fingers through her blonde hair and looked into her blue eyes, searching for some sign of change, but there was none.
The eyes of a werewolf would glow whenever they were angry or scared, but Shana’s eyes stayed the same color regardless of how she felt.
She took a deep breath and let it out slowly before she closed her eyes and concentrated on calling out to her wolf, but nothing happened.
Please, let me be a late bloomer.
Shana’s wolf didn’t answer her call and she felt a tear sliding down her cheek as she realized the truth—she was wolfless.
“Shana,” Alex called out to her from the other side of the door just like he always did whenever he came to see her when they were younger.
“How are you feeling?”
Shana opened the door and saw Alex standing on the other side with his hands in his pockets and a sad look on his face.
“I’m fine,” Shana said with a small smile before she looked down at her hands and bit her lip nervously.
“I just wish that you didn’t have to leave,” Alex said before walking up to her and taking her hand into his own.
Shana’s heart started to pound like crazy and her cheeks turned red as he squeezed her hand gently and looked at her with those green eyes that she loved so much—those same green eyes that she used to get lost in whenever she looked into them back when they were kids growing up together.Shana looked down at their hands and took a deep breath before she spoke up hesitantly.
“I know that it’s going to be different since I won’t be here anymore.”
Alex’s heart broke when he saw Shana fighting back tears as she spoke to him and he knew that she was thinking about how things were going to be different between them from now on because she wouldn’t be living in the same town as him anymore.
He wanted to pull her into his arms and hold her close since she always looked so cute whenever she was upset, but he knew that he couldn’t do that anymore—now that he had found his soulmate and was going to be mated to her soon.
“I’m sorry, Shana,” Alex said as he leaned in to give her a hug one last time before they said goodbye to each other forever.
Shana felt like her heart was being torn in two as she hugged Alex tightly and tried to hold back her tears as she buried her face into his chest and listened to the sound of his heartbeat one last time before she forced herself to let go of him and pulled away from his embrace reluctantly.
“Don’t be,” Alex said with a sad smile before he put his hand on Shana’s cheek gently and stroked it with his thumb as he looked into her eyes lovingly like he used to do when they were younger.
“I’m just glad that you’re doing this because I’ll feel better knowing that you’re safe.” He took his hand away from Shana’s cheek and reached into his pocket before he took out a pendant on a silver chain and put it around Shana’s neck for her.
“Even though we’re not going to see each other anymore, you’ll still have me with you wherever you go.”
Shana looked down at the pendant in her hands and felt a tear sliding down her cheek as she read the inscription on it—I love you more than yesterday; less than tomorrow—and knew exactly what it meant; it was what Alex used to say to her whenever they said goodbye to each other when they were kids growing up together.
Shana held the pendant tightly in her hands and looked up at Alex with tears in her eyes as she reached into her pocket and took out a small box for him too before taking his hand in hers and putting the box into his hand and closing his fingers around it to hold it in place before she spoke up hesitantly.
“This is for you,” Shana said as she looked into Alex’s eyes nervously and bit her lip as he looked down at the box in his hand and opened it to see the silver bracelet inside of it and held it in his hand carefully to look at it and see how beautiful it was before he looked back up at Shana with a smile and saw how nervous she was as he asked her a question about it.
“Shana,” Alex said as he looked at Shana with a curious look on his face and saw how nervous she was while she bit her lip and tried to read his expression to see what he was thinking of the gift that she got for him since she wasn’t sure if he would like it or not—since it was the first time that she ever bought a present for him before—and she didn’t know what to say to him to explain what his gift meant to her.
“Do you like it?”
“Yeah,” Alex said as he smiled and looked into Shana’s eyes warmly as he realized what the bracelet meant when he saw the inscription on it and felt his heart swell with pride at how much Shana had changed since they were kids growing up together and knew that it was time to tell her the truth about how he really felt about her now that they were older and no longer children anymore.
“I love you, Shana,” Alex said as he took her hand in his own once again and put the bracelet around her wrist gently before he leaned in to give her a kiss on the cheek softly and saw how shocked she was when she heard him saying those words to her for the very first time in her life.
Shana smiled and felt tears sliding down her cheeks as she spoke up nervously while looking into Alex’s eyes lovingly and biting her lip to try to stop herself from crying as he held her hand in his own and looked at her tenderly like he used to do when they were kids growing up together.
“I love you too, Alex,” Shana said quietly as she looked down at their hands once more before she let go of them reluctantly and walked away from him without looking back so that she wouldn’t have to see the look on his face after she told him how much she loved him too.
Shana Thompson felt tears welling up in her eyes as the group of mean girls who had knocked the tray out of her hands and left all of the food scattered across the floor laughed at her and started taunting her for being wolfless like they were and not having a wolf of her own like the rest of them did.
“Oh my god,” the girl who had auburn hair and green eyes said as she flipped her hair over one shoulder and laughed loudly before she continued speaking and pointed at Shana like she was something disgusting and annoying and needed to be gotten rid of right away before it was too late.
“Did you just see the look on the wolfless girl’s face?”
The other two girls who were standing beside her started laughing even harder than before when they heard what the auburn haired girl said and started pointing at Shana like they were making fun of a puppy or a small child who didn’t know any better before the auburn haired girl spoke up once again and continued laughing as well while she flipped her hair over one shoulder and smirked cruelly at Shana and let out an evil cackle as soon as she got a good look at how much the wolfless girl really did look like a helpless and defenseless little puppy or child who didn’t know any better at all.
“Did you really think that you could come into our school and pretend like you’re just like we are when you don’t even have a wolf of your own?”
The auburn haired girl said as soon as she stopped laughing and looked at Shana with an evil smirk on her face while she continued taunting and mocking the wolfless girl some more for being different from all of them and not having a wolf of her own to protect herself and stand up for herself when people started bullying her like they were doing now for no reason at all except that they could and wanted to and because they hated people who were different from them and didn’t want to be around them under any circumstances at all.
“Maybe I should bash your head in with this chair then and see how much you like it when someone else is bullying you and being mean and cruel and nasty towards you for no reason at all except that they can and want to and because they can and because you are different from them and not just like them?”
The Girl said as she picked up the chair and held it over her head for everyone to see and started pretending like she was going to hit Shana with it and bash her head in and hurt her bad and make her cry and want to go home and never come back again because she was so embarrassed and humiliated and ashamed and upset and everyone knew it and could tell by how scared she looked and how she had tears in her eyes and was ready to cry as soon as she started picking on her more and making her even more afraid and terrified and petrified than she already was just by being around her and seeing how scary and intimidating she was when she wanted to be and was being right now.“What do you say about that? Are you going to beg for me not to hurt you or are you going to give me a reason not to?”
The Girl said as she tried to scare Shana even more into doing whatever she wanted her to do just by looking into her eyes and seeing how terrified she was when she started picking on her and making fun of her and scaring her even more than she already was right now just by being around her and seeing how mean and cruel and nasty she was when she wanted to be and was right now as well.
And if you don’t do what I want you to do, I will hit you with this chair in the head with all my might!
She said as she picked up the chair that was right next to her for the past few minutes or so and tried to hit Shana with it in the head, but Shana ducked down and the chair went flying over her head.
And all of a sudden, it was quiet in the room once again, until someone spoke up and said, “What is going on over here?”
And they stopped what they were doing and looked over at that person, and they saw a tall young man standing there with his arms crossed and an angry and worried look on his face, and he was looking right over at them, and they knew that he was serious about what he just said to them and what he would do if they didn’t stop what they were doing right now and leave her alone right this minute.
And they did, but before they turned around and left, the girl who has been in charge of the whole thing said, “Nothing much, Alex, we are just showing the new girl around, that’s all.”
She said as she turned around to face him, and behind her, she could see someone else walking up right behind her, but instead of turning around to see who it was, she ignored them and started walking away from them both and didn’t look back until after she left the room.
And Alex frowned at her as she walked away from him, and then he looked over at that person behind her again, and he said to them in a calm but angry tone of voice, “And what do you think you are doing here?Do you know what you have just done?”
And that person said nothing to him at first as they stood there in silence and just stared at each other with angry looks on their faces, until they finally spoke up and said to him in a calm but threatening tone of voice, “Yes I do.Amber.”And Alex frowned at them even more when they called him by his name like that, because he had no idea who this person was or how they knew him.And Amber frowned at him too when she heard him calling her by her name like that, because she had no idea who this person was or how they knew her name too.And then she looked over at Shana again, but this time, she saw them standing behind her too, right before they stepped out from behind her without saying a word or making a sound to anyone there in that room except for her.And then she looked over at Alex again, and then she looked over at that person behind her too, to see if they knew anyone else in that room too.
And Alex looked over at the person behind Shana too, but he didn’t say anything to them or make any sounds either, except for one, which sounded like a growl, but she wasn’t sure if she heard it or not, because she heard it coming from behind her, right next to the person standing there too.
And Amber turned around to face them again, but this time, she had an angry look on her face, and she said to them in a calm but threatening tone of voice, “So what? This isn’t the first time that I have done something like this. And this won’t be the last time either.
But then, the person behind Shana said to them in an angry tone of voice, “Yes it is.”And Amber looked over at them too, but this time, she had a look of disgust on her face, like she couldn’t believe what she just said to them right now.
And then she said to them in a calm but angry tone of voice, “Shut up!Who are you anyway? What are you doing here?”
And then she said to them in an even angrier tone of voice, “Listen here, you little bitch. If you ever lay a hand on me or any one of my friends again, you will be sorry.”She said as she stepped up into their faces and looked down on them with an angry look on her face.
But then that person didn’t back down from them or walk away from them either, but instead, they stepped up into their faces too and looked down on them with an even angrier look on their faces too.
And then they said to them in an even angrier tone of voice, “You listen here! You may think that you are tough now.But you aren’t.You are just a stupid little girl who thinks that she can do whatever she wants to anyone she wants too.But let me tell you something, little girl. You can’t!You can’t do anything you want around here!”
And then they looked over at Shana again, but this time, they called her by name when they said to her in an even angrier tone of voice, “Shana Thompson!”
But then Shana didn’t say anything to them either, but instead, she just stood there in front of them with wide eyes and a scared look on her face too.
And then they said to her in an even angrier tone of voice again, “What do you think you’re doing?”
And Shana just stood there as they said to her in an even angrier tone of voice again, “I don’t want you to do anything.
I want you to go away.”She said as they looked past her to the person behind her who was dressed in black too.
But then Shana didn’t look at them either, but instead, she just stood there in front of them with wide eyes and an angry look on her face too.
And then they looked around Shana again to the person behind her as they said to her in an even angrier tone of voice again, “You knew what I meant.”
But then the person behind Shana didn’t do anything either at first.
But then they looked over at Alex and his friends again.
And then they stopped talking too.
And then they looked around too.
And then they noticed who it was standing there too.
And then they looked around some more too.
And then they noticed who it was too.
But then they didn’t say anything to them either.
But then Shana noticed how quiet it was too.
And then she looked around some more too.
And then she noticed that no one was talking anymore.
In fact, no one was doing anything anymore either.
She noticed that no one was doing anything except for looking at them.
She noticed that no one was doing anything except for staring at them.
And then her head started to feel all weird all of a sudden too.
She started to get kind of dizzy all of a sudden too.
She started to feel kind of sick all of a sudden too.
She started to feel kind of weak all of a sudden too.
She started to feel kind of faint all of a sudden too.
She started to feel like she was about to pass out all of a sudden too.
She started to feel like she was about to lose consciousness all of a sudden too.
She started to feel like she was about to collapse all of a sudden too.
She started to feel like she was about to fall down all of a sudden too.
But then she didn’t fall down either.
But then she felt herself falling anyway too.
But then she felt like she was going to faint anyway too.
But then she felt like she was going to pass out anyway too.
But then she felt like she was going to lose consciousness anyway too.
But then she didn’t lose consciousness either.
But then she felt like she was on the verge of losing consciousness anyway too.
But then she felt like she was on the verge of fainting anyway too.
But then she didn’t faint either.
But then she felt like she was going to faint anyway too.
But then she felt like she was going to pass out anyway too.
But then her head started feeling really weird all of a sudden too.
And then her vision started getting blurry all of a sudden too.
And then everything started getting really dark all of a sudden too.
And then everything started getting really black all of a sudden too.
But then she didn’t lose consciousness yet either.
