I’m fifteen years old this year.
Fifteen years ago, when I was about three years old, the world was full of bright colors and sounds.
Now, the only thing in my memory is the sound of the wind blowing on Kunlun Mountain.
It was a gentle sound, like a lullaby.
Every day I would sleep until the sun was high, and then I would go down the mountain with Zhang Xin to pick wild herbs.
There were few people living on this side of Kunlun Mountain.
Sometimes we would meet some Taoists or hermits, but they all looked like us—eager to live in peace and contentment in this blessed land.
The time on Kunlun Mountain seemed to pass very quickly.
In a blink of an eye, fifteen years had passed since I came here as a child.
At that time, I could only remember one sentence from my mother: "Hao Hao, your grandfather is still alive!"
I didn’t know who my grandfather was or what he looked like, but whenever I did something wrong, I would think that if he knew, he would definitely be sad.
Fifteen years have passed since I came here as a child.
Today is the first day I have been allowed to go down the mountain.
Whispers of Kunlun: Xia's Descent
Zhang Xin stood at the edge of the mountain, his eyes looking down at me.
His eyes were cloudy and unclear, but I could still see a hint of pride and sadness in them.
He stretched out his hand and handed me a small pouch made of cloth.
I took it and opened it to find that it was filled with herbs.
I looked up at him and saw that he was smiling.
"Take this with you," he said.
"These will guide you."
His voice was steady, but I could hear a softness in it that I had never heard before.
Whispers of Kunlun: Xia's Descent
I felt a knot in my stomach.
I was excited to go down the mountain, but I was also afraid.
I didn’t know what the world outside would be like, and I didn’t know if I could survive on my own.
I looked at Zhang Xin, who was standing in front of me.
He was the only family I had known for the past fifteen years, and I didn’t know if I would ever see him again after today.
The old Taoist nodded at me, urging me to go.
I took a deep breath and stood up straight.
I held the pouch tightly in my hand and turned to leave.
Whispers of Kunlun: Xia's Descent
As I walked down the mountain, the rustling of leaves caught my attention.
I looked over and saw a squirrel standing on its hind legs.
It was bigger than any squirrel I had seen before, and its eyes were bright and shiny.
The squirrel looked at me and chattered, "Follow the path where shadows dance."
I blinked.
Did not that old Taoist instruct you all to steer clear of me?
I looked back at the peak of the mountain, where Zhang Xin was standing.
He was watching me, but he didn’t say anything.
I looked back at the squirrel and hesitated for a moment.
Then I followed it.
The path that the squirrel had pointed out was very narrow and steep.
It was also unfamiliar to me, and I couldn’t help but wonder if I should continue on this way.
The squirrel seemed to sense my hesitation.
It ran back and stood in front of me, looking up at me with its bright eyes.

"Courage is the key to success," it said.
I thought of the old Taoist’s words: "Courage is not about being fearless. It’s about facing your fears."
I took a deep breath and followed the squirrel down the mountain.
As we walked, the trees around us grew taller and taller, casting long shadows on the ground.
The sun was high in the sky, and it cast a warm glow over everything.
The air was filled with the sweet scent of flowers and herbs, and I felt my heart beating faster and faster as we walked deeper into the forest.
Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of us.
I stopped abruptly and looked up at her.
Whispers of Kunlun: Xia's Descent
She was wearing a cloak that covered her face and body.
I couldn’t see her features clearly, but I could sense that she was a woman.
She reached out and handed me a piece of paper.
"This will guide you safely to the village," she said.
Her voice was steady and calm, but I could sense a certain power in it.
I took the paper and looked at it.
It was a map, with many lines that I didn’t understand.
The squirrel chattered beside me, "Trust the path."
Whispers of Kunlun: Xia's Descent
I looked up at the mysterious woman, but she had already disappeared into the trees.
I felt a knot in my stomach, but I knew that I couldn’t stay here forever.
I took a deep breath and stood up straight, gripping the map tightly in my hand.
Then I followed the path down the mountain.
The forest seemed to whisper secrets to me as I walked through it.
The trees were tall and dense, casting long shadows on the ground.
I heard the sound of running water in front of me, and my heart beat faster with excitement and fear.
Suddenly, I heard a loud shout behind me.
I turned around and saw nothing but dense trees.
The forest was silent again, and I felt a shiver run down my back.
I hesitated, my heart pounding in my chest, and took a cautious step forward.
The shout echoed again, this time closer, and I spun around to see a shadowy figure emerging from the trees.
Before I could react, the ground beneath me gave way, and I plummeted into darkness.
