My name is Ava, and I’m eighteen.
I live in a small town where everyone knows each other.
It’s a place where you can’t walk down the street without running into someone you’re acquainted with.
It’s also a place where you can’t walk into a restaurant or store without knowing someone who works there.
It’s a place where you can’t go to school with more than five people who don’t know your name.
And it’s a place where you can’t fall in love with someone without seeing the future of that person.
That person’s death, to be exact.
It happened before, and it’s going to happen again.
All thanks to my best friend, Lily.
Lily Bennett has been my best friend since the day I started pre-school.
We were inseparable, and we remained that way up until this day.
She’s sweet, trusting, and naive.
She never expects anything bad to happen on her path.
She expects everyone to love her, and they do.

She started dating Jake about two months ago.
