I woke up with a pounding headache, the worst I’d ever had.
I groaned and tried to sit up, but my head felt like it was going to split open.
I fell back on the bed and closed my eyes, trying to remember what happened last night.
The last thing I remembered was drinking with Jake at his party.
My eyes snapped open and I gasped when I realized where I was.
This wasn’t my bed.
I looked around the room and saw that it was Jake’s room.
I was in Jake’s bed.
What the hell happened last night?
I tried to remember what happened after we drank together, but my memory was hazy.
I remembered feeling dizzy and then I blacked out.
Did we have sex?
No, that couldn’t be right.
I turned my head slightly and felt a warm body pressed against mine.
Jake’s arm was draped over my waist, and his breath was soft against the back of my neck.
Panic surged through me, and I froze, not daring to move.
What if he woke up?
What would I say?
My heart pounded in my chest as I tried to piece together the fragments of last night.
"Emily," Jake mumbled, his voice thick with sleep.
A shiver ran down my spine.
I needed to get out of here before he fully woke up.
Slowly, I began to inch away from him, trying not to make any sudden movements.
Just as I managed to slip out from under his arm, the door burst open with a loud bang.
I whipped my head around to see Sarah standing there, her eyes blazing with fury.
"What the hell is going on here?" she screamed.
My breath caught in my throat.
Sarah was Jake's girlfriend.
Or at least, she had been until now.
Her face was red with anger, and her hands were clenched into fists at her sides.
"Sarah, it's not what it looks like," I stammered, scrambling to sit up and cover myself with the blanket.
Jake groaned behind me and sat up, rubbing his eyes.
"What's going on?" he muttered, still half-asleep.
"What's going on?" Sarah repeated, her voice rising. "I'll tell you what's going on! I walk in to find my boyfriend in bed with another girl!"
She took a step forward, her eyes never leaving mine. "How could you do this to me, Emily?"
"I don't even know what happened," I said desperately. "I don't remember anything after we started drinking."
Jake finally seemed to wake up fully and looked between Sarah and me, confusion etched on his face.
"Sarah, calm down," he said, holding up his hands. "Nothing happened. We just fell asleep."
"Just fell asleep?" Sarah scoffed. "Do you expect me to believe that?"
Jake sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Yes, because it's the truth."
He looked at me for confirmation, but I couldn't meet his gaze.
The truth was, I didn't know what had happened.
Sarah's eyes filled with tears as she looked at Jake. "I trusted you," she whispered. "And you betrayed me."

She turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her.
I sat there in stunned silence for a moment before turning to Jake. "What are we going to do?"
He shook his head. "I don't know. But we need to figure out what really happened last night."
Before we could say anything else, there was a loud crash from downstairs.
Jake and I exchanged worried glances before jumping out of bed and rushing towards the noise.
We reached the bottom of the stairs just in time to see Sarah standing in the middle of the living room, surrounded by broken glass.
She had knocked over a vase in her rage and was now staring at us with wild eyes.
"You think you can just lie to me?" she shouted. "You think I'm stupid?"
"Sarah, please," Jake pleaded. "Let's just talk about this."
But Sarah wasn't listening.
She picked up a shard of glass and pointed it at us.
"If you come any closer," she warned, "I'll make sure you regret it."
My heart raced as I looked at Jake.
We needed to do something before someone got hurt.
